What's going on in

EEHL?

This edition, we're spotlighting student writing from our Year 7s and 9s, who have been working on poetry in class.

APATHY WRINKLES THE SOUL

They say the more you grow old,

The less lively life is

The less meaning in life

The less joy in life

But what people don't know

is life feels more precious as you age

The sky seems brighter

The grass lush and green

Birds' chirps as loud and joyous as ever

That's what growing up is

It's noticing the small things

And being the person you were always meant to be

Because while years wrinkle the skin,

Apathy wrinkles the soul

WAR AND POLITICS

They may say that you

“Need to serve your country now”

More of a white lie.

They may say that you

‘Shouldn’t show any fear now’

They haven't been there

They may say that they

‘Are your greatest enemy’

Fleas are more deadly

They may say that

‘We fed and clothed you: you owe us”

They were doing it for themselves

They may say that he

‘ died for his country’

Widows weep all day

They may say that you

‘The enemy started it’

Guilt speaks louder than words

WORLD

I hear the soothing tunes the world sings to me

Like how a mother does to her resting baby

The world tends to lift me above its head

And I am on top of the world

But sometimes, the world turns away

The world banishes me

Leaving me in a dark, gloomy ally

My happiness abandons me

Avoiding me as if I was a sin

The world is strange

Because suddenly, I hear the same soothing tunes

I feel the same soft hands, gently lifting me up

I feel the same euphoric feeling I so desperately yearn for

Higher and higher I am lifted

Until once again, I am on top of the world
