Wellbeing 2020

Sports Day is coming soon and we thought it was an opportune time to reflect on our School Values - Respect, Care & Concern, Honesty and Pursuit of Excellence.

After nominations, preparation and delivery of speeches and voting process with our oldest students, we have announced our Team Captains for 2020. This is very exciting for the successful applicants and often upsetting and disappointing for our unsuccessful students.

It is important that our unsuccessful students feel proud of their effort and commitment to our school.

These young people have upheld our school values on a daily basis throughout their time at Lockleys North and we know that they will continue to be exceptional role-models.

We will be encouraging them to apply for many other leadership opportunities during 2020.

With the added responsibility on our Team Captains, we felt it was important to review their role and raise their profile within our community. With this in mind, Team Captains will sit at the front during our whole school assemblies so that they can be an extra focal point to demonstrate our core values to all students.

Upholding our LNPS Values:

Be polite and respectful to all - always greet and treat people in a positive manner.

Be respectful to the environment - litter in the yard, toilet areas, learning areas inside buildings, outside learning spaces, on excursions…etc.

Show genuine Care and Concern for all - stand up for what is right - support people who are not feeling well, are injured, or who you know are having a tough time.

Have the drive and determination to be successful.

Be honest even when it might get you in trouble!

Being a GOOD CITIZEN:

Show good sportsmanship - cheer everyone on!

Think about and act to support people in our community.

Demonstrate bravery and integrity - make your voice heard, make a stand against bullying and anti-social behaviour in the real and online worlds.

To raise the profile for all our Year 7 graduates, we will be reserving the front row of seating during all whole school assemblies for 2020 and politely request that parents sit behind our Year 7 students.

We are in the process of investigating ways in which we can continue to promote team spirit and connectedness at LNPS. In the coming weeks we will be discussing and preparing for Team Points to continue after Sports Day concludes, so that our Team Captains, Student Leaders and all students can maintain focus and continue to demonstrate our school values on a daily basis.

Team Points will be awarded to students who regularly demonstrate our school values and we will celebrate our successes during whole school assemblies and with our Team display in the gym.

We also want our students to wear their Team Colours - Brian (BLUE), Grallina (GREEN), Malurus (YELLOW) and Pierson (RED) - more regularly throughout the year so, following Sports Day, we encourage students to wear their colours with pride on their PE days too.

As teachers and leaders, we want all our students to have fun on Sports Day! My highlight from the last one was the care and concern shown, by many people from different teams, towards a student who fell during the Championship Sprints. Although this may not be a highlight for the student who fell, it was certainly a demonstration of good sportsmanship, respect for others and genuine care and concern. Let's hope we see many examples of our values in action in 2020.

While having fun and enjoying what will be an awesome day, we encourage all our families to get involved, we ALWAYS need volunteers for food stalls, help us by offering your services, 30 minutes or an hour is all it takes.

Huge gratitude and appreciation to our Governing Council, who, as parents, do a wonderful job to ensure we have many successful events every year.

The more families we have involved in supporting them, the more likely they are to be able to see their own children during sports events and Championship Sprints so please get involved! Even if you are unable to dedicate time, we politely request that you value our volunteers by  demonstrating patience, respect and good sportsmanship throughout our Sports Day event.

This allows all our students to develop their understanding of connectedness, community spirit and respect for all members of our LNPS community.

Thanks for your continued support,

Mike

The images below are from Random Acts of Kindness website - these will be referenced throughout the year.

Our Play Leaders are doing a brilliant job to add fun, enjoyment and organisation to lunchtimes for the many students who join them for Active Lunch in the gym.

This has been a huge task to organise and I'd like to put on record my gratitude for all our Play Leaders for giving up their lunch breaks and staff for giving up extra duty times to ensure success. You can see from the faces above that this initiative has been very worthwhile.

Thank you for all the donations that were sent into school for our Toy and Book Stall.

The funds raised ($1000+) by students through this stall, Community Night can sales and our recent casual day have been spent on new toys, books and clothes for our friends on Kangaroo Island.

Our group of Fisher students who organised the stall and many others are in the process of wrapping these gifts so that they can make their way to KI soon.

This Random Act of Kindness will hopefully put smiles on the faces of the recipients, while we have enjoyed making a difference to people in our wider community. Well done to all!
