Walton House News

Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,

Hello Walton!

Term Three Wrap-Up; What a Term!

Term 3 has gone very quickly, with a lot of amazing events and experiences throughout.

  • 4 C’s: On Monday 5th of September, HPSC students performed in the 4 C’s (Cultivating Creative Cultures with Communities) showcase at Bunjil Place. The 4 C’s performance was amazing and the students performing made the HPSC community very proud.
  • Rugby Camp: This week the Rugby students attended a camp, this was a highly successful and fun camp that was led by Mr Christiansen and Ms Louden.
  • R U OK? DAY: On the 9th of September HPSC celebrated RUOK Day which was led by the wellbeing team at the school. To celebrate and promote talking about mental health, we had care packages, a petting zoo and more!
  • Values Assembly: Today we are ending a wonderful term with a year 9/10 values assembly, where we will be celebrating the fantastic efforts of the students this term and the achievements they have attained.

Looking Forward – Term 4

  • In term 4 week 1 we are hosting a celebration lunch to celebrate student achievement across the year. We will be celebrating great attendance, improved learning habits, commitment to learning and consistent excellence.
  • In term 4 week 8 we will be attending an excursion to the Holocaust Museum for the year 10s to learn about the history of WW2.
  • Early commencement will begin in week 8, meaning the academic year of 2023 will begin. This is a great opportunity for students to prepare for the coming year and get to know their classes and teachers!
  • In week 10 we will be running a leadership camp!

Homework Club:

A reminder that homework club runs after school on Monday (library), Wednesday (e-block) and Thursday (library). The homework club is run by passionate, experienced and knowledgeable teachers, it is free tutoring and a wonderful program for any/all students to be involved in!

Values Nominations and House Points:

Term 3 has already shown a huge amount of values nominations come through to celebrate the incredible work that students are doing in their classes, and to show the dedication to adhering to the school values.  We had a House Assembly last week which celebrated these achievements.

A huge congratulations to all our Walton students for their efforts on earning nominations for living our HPSC values. Currently our nominations stats are:

That's a total of 2352 nominations since the beginning of the year!

Reading House Points

If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!

If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Ms Riley will add this to compass as a values nomination and you will get house points!

If a student writes a longer review (300 words), Mr Shinkfield  will post it on the compass newsfeed, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).

Each month we will have staff and student recommendations in the Newshamper.

Student Book Recommendation:

This month’s student book club recommendation comes from fantastic Year 8 student:Fareshta Rezai recommending the book The Secret Sky by  Atia Abawi Fareshta: I loved this book, I just finished it and could not stop crying!

Walton Student of the Month!

In each Newshamper we celebrate the achievements of one student. This month, our student of the month is…Lejla Estrefi!

Thank you for your hard work, respect, teamwork and attendance. You’re doing amazing and the Walton Team are very proud of you!

Walton Staff Member of the Month!

We also want to introduce some of the amazing Walton teachers that work within our wonderful house.  This month, we are featuring the outstanding Aria Sunga!

Student Leadership:

We are in the process of organising the student leaders for 2023! We were absolutely inundated with applications which was amazing to see. Next year, student leadership will be organised into houses, and there will be interviews running in week 1 term 4! Good luck to all who have applied 😊

Ready to Learn Reminders

Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall, we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far.

As we are into winter, if a student has an out of uniform jumper, they may loan a school jacket for the day. They will also receive a detention, unless there is a valid reason for being out of uniform and note from home. Wearing the uniform correctly is a great way for us all to show school pride! 😊Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week. A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately. Please have a restful, safe and happy break! All students, families and staff have earned it!

Thank you,

- The Walton Team
