HSC Performance Exams
Congratulations to Aimee Drummond and Zara Wigan who completed their HSC Music performance exams on Monday. This comprises 70% of their final HSC Music mark and is a wonderful achievement.
Orpheus Student Concert
Congratulations and thank you to all the students who performed so beautifully at the Orpheus concert last Sunday. Working together with different student ensembles on a variety of music styles was an achievement. It was a huge success and everyone appreciated your contribution. We are hoping to prepare an item for the Hospital Fundraising Concert on 6th November, so keep practising!
AIM School Holiday Music Workshops
The Australian Institute of Music is presenting holiday workshops for high school students interested in developing their songwriting or performing abilities with world-class music educators:
Songwriting – Mon 26 Sep. An essential workshop for any high school student (Year 9-12) curious about writing songs and performing. Students will work with professional songwriter, composer and producer Dominic Cabusi to workshop harmony, melody, style, lyricism, basic arrangement and production. Students will also collaborate on original music and perform it at the conclusion of the workshop.
Performance – Mon 26 Sep. Experience playing music in this fun one-day workshop designed for budding performers. This workshop covers all the essential skills a modern musician must demonstrate, including: communicating in an ensemble, chart reading, rhythm, pitch, dynamic, improvisation, stylistic interpretation and performance. Students will work together to perform a set of songs at the end of the day, live!

Festival of Resilience – Community Spring Sing
Raise your voice to celebrate our resilient, creative community. As part of the Leura Village Fair and Festival of Resilience REJOICE weekend, join in to learn and sing a “Pub Choir” style song with vibrant choir leader Suze Pratten. Enjoy performances from Blue Mountains choirs. Sing for Country, for connection and for community!

Calling Budding Songwriters and Music Producers
JMC Songwriting Competition
Students are invited to submit a demo of an original song (written individually or as a team) and the lyrics to the song in written form. The demo can simply be recorded on your phone and only include the vocals however instrumental accompaniment is encouraged. You’re welcome to record the demo in other ways too if you have the means. Submit the demo of your original song in WAV or MP3 format (maximum five minutes in length), the lyrics sheet and a completed submission form. Applications close Monday, 31st October.
JMC Mixtapes Competition
This Audio Engineering and Sound Production competition encourages students who have a keen interest in audio and sound to further develop their skills and talent to a wider audience. Students have the opportunity to creatively remix, reinterpret, and rework the original upcoming single, “Hard Truth” by JMC Academy alumni band, Patient Lounge.
