Wellbeing
Students may use the Wellbeing space for time-out or if they need support with matters affecting their attendance in class. The space is also used for counseling and adolescent health consultations. Students may request to leave your class to attend the Wellbeing space if they are feeling distressed, require immediate attention, or have scheduled appointments with a member of the Wellbeing Team during your class. The team consists of:
Kasi Bird | Wellbeing Leader |
Claudia Nicolin | Counsellor |
Kylie Stanley | Adolescent Health Nurse (Mon/Fri) |
Other Staff Members who work closely with Wellbeing (located in the Administrative area):
Lisa Di Domenica | Disability Inclusion Leader |
Lauren Wallis | Mental Health Practitioner |
Ben Zanin | Inclusion, Integration Aides |
Integration Aides
The College has secured funding to employ Integration Aides to support students who require additional assistance. Staff will be informed of the students assigned to an aide.
Not all students in the integration program have aides, but all are supported by a team of teachers, their parents, external providers, and representatives from the Department of Education and Training (DET). Teachers are expected to adapt their work to meet the individual needs of these students. Ben Zanin is responsible for Integration at Macleod College. You can find Ben and the Integration Aides in the General Staffroom in the Administrative Area.
Library
If you need to borrow a book or resources, please see Linda and Kirsten, our school Librarians. You can send a small group of students (maximum 4 at one time), with a Library pass - forms available from the library, or ask your Mentor.
Programs
We encourage you to explore the various programs and extracurricular activities available at Macleod College. Engaging with these opportunities outside of your teaching responsibilities will not only enhance your experience but also help you build connections within the school community. Whether it’s visiting clubs, supporting school events, or participating in other initiatives, these activities offer valuable insights and opportunities in the teaching profession and working with young people.
Homework Club
Homework Club is held every Tuesday afternoon from 3:10 PM to 4:30 PM. During this time, students can seek support from rostered staff, meet with classroom teachers for individual or small group assistance, or collaborate with peers in a productive environment.
Maths Homework Club
Maths Homework Club is held on Tuesdays from 3:10 PM to 4:30 PM in S5. This session is especially beneficial for Senior School students seeking assistance, practice, and opportunities to improve their results.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:15 AM in G Block. Students are welcome to enjoy a bite to eat and chat with staff and friends.
College Production
Macleod College has resumed its annual school production since 2023, following a long hiatus. The reintroduction of Drama as an elective has opened up additional opportunities for students to showcase their talents, engage in creative expression, and develop confidence both on and off the stage. This initiative encourages collaboration, builds community spirit, and allows students to explore the arts in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Instrumental Music Lessons
As a school specialising in music, we have a dedicated team of Instrumental Music teachers who work both here and at other schools on different days. Students are withdrawn from regular classes on a rotational basis, typically once a week. These teachers also play a key role in the College's performance program, leading various performance groups in rehearsals before or after school, and organising opportunities for students to perform in public venues.
Students scheduled for instrumental lessons are expected to attend their lessons directly, on a rotational basis, as part of their regular timetable. Instrumental lessons are considered a standard component of their class schedule.
Students attending instrumental music lessons are expected to make up any missed classwork.
Student Leadership
Students at Macleod College have the opportunity to develop and enhance their leadership skills through a range of roles that cater to various leadership styles and interests. These positions allow students to take on responsibilities that align with their passions and strengths. Leadership opportunities include College Captain, Performing Arts Captain, Sports Captain, International Captain, House Captain, Student Representative Council (SRC), and the Events Team. Each role provides students with the chance to make a meaningful impact within the school community, while fostering personal growth and collaboration. During your placement, you may have the opportunity to participate in events hosted by the Student Leadership Team. We encourage you to join us in fundraising activities, casual clothes days, and awareness or celebration events.
Sport Program - Teams
Macleod College boasts strong sporting teams that represent the college at the District level. Students participate in tryouts, and teams are selected based on performance. In preparation for tournaments against other schools, students train during lunchtime. Macleod College is proudly represented by students in sports such as Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Futsal.
