Confirmation

"Inspired by the Spirit we are a strong community,

supporting and leading learners in a safe and inclusive environment."

Our School Vision has certainly been a living document over the last two weeks!

The Holy Spirit has been inspiring us all!

Just over two weeks ago the Archbishop of Melbourne, Most Rev Peter Comensoli delegated Parish priests to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation upon their parishioners.

So as the combined Parishes of Oakleigh, Brendan and I met with Fr Raju and the leadership of Sacred Heart School to discuss how this most welcome news could be a part of our last few weeks of school - Plan A. Then with the welcome news by the State Government last weekend, of the opening up of many restrictions, a new and our current plan was put into place.

So it is with great joy that we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in Christ Our Holy Redeemer Church next Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Smaller groups of children than usual, less family and friends than we would normally invite, but most wonderfully some of our Year 6 students will receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit with their parents, sponsor and some family. All of course in a COVID Safe way.

This certainly was a very surprising gift of joy to bring to the final weeks of what has been a most challenging year. It will be truly wonderful to gather inside the Church as a community to pray and to celebrate our Year 6 students just before they journey onto Secondary School.

Please pray for our Confirmation Candidates and indeed our whole community, that the Holy Spirit will not only inspire us, but guide us through our life's journey.

Spirit of God, grant us:

The gift of wisdom

To see the world through your eyes,

The gift of counsel

To make difficult decisions,

The gifts of knowledge and understanding

To use my mind to know you and to love you,

The gift of fortitude

To have the courage to live in the faith

Despite the difficulties and disappointments,

The gift of piety

To be able to express our special love

And commitment to you,

And the right kind of awesome fear

That makes us pause to wonder and revere God’s Love.

Amen.
