FOWPS News

What a year! Although we didn’t undertake the social activities we had initially planned for, I am grateful that the online meeting revolution drew some new faces into the FOWPS team and helped develop friendships despite the spread of ages of our school children. In addition, we managed to organise a range of fundraisers to support our school.

Our biggest fundraising event of the year (usually a Trivia Night) became our online Silent Auction. This experiment on the Galabid web-based platform, run by Meg Bailey and Vy Costen, raised just shy of $4000. The success of this event was largely due to the generosity of local Warrandyte business who donated items, and all those punters who got online to bid. Many items went for more than their stated value which goes to show how generous you all are!

We also held our annual Art Fundraiser. This would not have been possible without the amazing organisation feat of the WPS staff to get the art done, copied, home and returned within a tight timeline. Anna McIntyre then whipped through the order forms and hey presto! – our orders arrived this week, looking gorgeous and colourful.

Our final fundraiser for the year was another experiment, the Hops and Vine Wine Drive. Again, due to the willingness of our community to support us, we exceeded expectations and sold more than the 24 cases required to secure a $1000 donation to the school. Due to the large number of orders Joe at Hops and Vine decided to throw in 2 surprise bottles of wine, each valued over $250! Thank you Linda Nolte for pulling all of this together.

Finally, thank you to all families who supported these fundraising efforts for our school. We know it was not an easy year for many to give financially, and so your support is extra special this year. We have lots of ideas for how to spend this money, including a special ‘chill zone’ for our relocated 2021 Grade 6s and creation of a well-being space. If you have any other ideas for making or spending money please let us know.

We hope you all have a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to some ‘friend’-raisers in the new year,
