School Leadership Message

Our Year 6 Graduating Class of 2020
It is absolutely amazing to think that we could have a graduation ceremony and assembly during our last week of school for 2020. We didn't think it would happen and we are so fortunate that these two special events did go ahead so that our year 6 students could finish their primary school years with positive memories and most of all, fun! This is and always should be a time for these students to celebrate and remember their 7 years of primary school. They were prep students in 2014 and have shown so much growth as people and learners from then to now. Year 6 is always special year for students but it was a very different year for this group. But with the tremendous support of their parents, families, friends and teachers they stuck together and kept showing their ability to be resilient, positive and creative.
We are all very proud of your achievements in all arenas across the school and we would like you to reflect on and celebrate all of your years at primary school. Be kind to yourself be kind to your family and friends and stay connected to what you really enjoy in life. Go forward being the best you can be and once again, congratulations!
2021 School Leadership
It was wonderful to have so many future Year 6 students present speeches to their peers and a panel of teachers. We are always proud of these students for having the passion, confidence and strength to apply for a position which is recognised and valued across the school. We really value student leadership and, as described within FISO (Framework for Improving Student Outcomes), we want students :
. Set high expectations for themselves and feel motivated and empowered to exercise agency.
. Have growth mindset and believe they can learn, and build their knowledge and skills through effort.
. Can represent their school and its students as confident members of a student leadership team.
. Generate meaningful discussions on behalf of those students whose voices are less likely to be heard, who are disengaged or who lack the skills and confidence to express views and opinions.
. Actively participate in a student representative organisation and effectively contribute to school decision making.
. Want to learn about the themselves and contribute to the community and the world around them.
The school would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students who went through the process of applying for a student leadership role. We know that you will all be wonderfully positive and kind role models in all arenas across the coming 2021 year. Well done to our elected school leaders. We are aiming to hold an official "Badge Ceremony" during our first assembly in Term 1. This is a special time of the year when our student leaders are presented with their official badge for their leadership role. We welcome parents to be a part of this occasion and will use Compass to communicate more about this event.
Finally we would like to wish all WPS families a very happy christmas and new year and look forward to seeing you all next year.
Rick Griffiths,
Acting Principal
2020 reflection
2020 has been a difficult year for our school community and so it was great to see so many parents at the final assembly on Friday. With the outgoing Year 6’s getting a chance to say goodbye and pass the baton to next years School Leaders, we were able to finish the year on a happy note.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the school community and to say how thrilled I am to be able to work as Acting Principal at WPS in Term 1. I have a strong commitment to providing high quality education to students and building a culture within a school where students can be the best that they can be.
This year I have worked in the DET regional office at Glen Waverley as an Education Improvement Leader for the Inner East area. This role required me to work closely with schools to build the capacity of teachers and leaders via professional learning, consultation with their Student Improvement Teams, School Reviews and assisting with planning for Annual Implementation Plans. Previously I have worked as an Assistant Principal and Acting Principal at Anderson’s Creek Primary School. I am a long time resident of Warrandyte and am particularly pleased to be working here, having been a WPS student myself many years ago.
Wellbeing is also a priority at WPS and so I would encourage you to come in anytime during Term 1 and introduce yourself and have a chat about your child. I am always happy to talk and I am looking forward to getting to know all the WPS families and students.
As we reflect on the year just gone, we have learned a lot from lock-down and remote learning. We found new ways to connect with our community, new ways to teach our students and above all, realised the importance of working as a school community, rallying together and working towards giving our students our very best. We take these lessons with us in 2021 to build an even stronger community of curious and caring learners and deliver a strong, viable and engaging teaching and learning program for our students.
Have a great Christmas and a relaxing New Year.
Kind regards,
Nieta Manser
2021 Classroom locations
Prep - 2 will be located in the main office building, with breakout rooms being set up between classes to optimise the space and encourage the natural flow of movement between the classes throughout the lessons.
Level 3/4 will move to the lower classrooms and will be joining Year 5 there.
The staff are excited to announce that the Year 6's will be relocating to the Stone Building and Science will also take place there. Preps will be given a chance to work with their Year 6 buddies in the Stone Building each week.
