School of Wonder

First day of school extra-special this year

The beginning of a school year is special; Foundation children begin their formal years of education, Years 1 and 2 children move into new Pastoral Groups, while others continue their education at a new school. This year has been particularly special because our learning spaces have expanded. There was much excitement and curiosity on the first day of term as children and parents made their way into the new building to explore various learning spaces and meet Learning Mentors. We often refer to our children as being competent and capable and this has certainly been displayed in our first week of learning. Children have begun to learn routines, work with different people and utilise the various spaces for reading, writing, maths and play.

How Do We Organise Ourselves? is our Inquiry topic this term, focusing on the idea that all things around us have a purpose, enabling us to function well in our community. Our learning environment naturally lends itself to tuning children into the topic and as the term progresses, we will delve further into the concept to deepen children’s understanding of the concept and its relevance to them.

Reminder to book literacy interview appointments

Parents of Foundation children are reminded to book their child's literacy interview via PAM as soon as possible. The half-hour interviews are held on Wednesdays, the Foundation children's rest day, and are an important assessment tool for Learning Mentors. The interview is conducted one-on-one between the Learning Mentor and child. Parents are welcome to stay at the college while the interview is being conducted, or they can leave their child with the Learning Mentor for the half hour.
