From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Welcome back to 2021. With the challenges of 2020 behind us we look towards a year full of hope and optimism. This year’s theme for Catholic Education Sandhurst is Faith in our Future – Bearers of Hope, a theme that resonates beautifully with our own college vision for a hope-filled future.

It has been so exciting to meet all of our new students and welcome them into the learning community here at St Anne’s College, particularly the Foundation children as they started their primary school years and the Year 7 students who began their secondary school journey. The children have settled in well and are finding their way around our new learning spaces, exploring new ways of engaging with the spaces throughout their school day.

Last year we launched our five-year school improvement plan; this can be viewed on the college website. I just wanted to draw your attention back to the five aspirations for the college over this period:

  • We aspire to be a Catholic community that gives life to the vision and mission of the college.
  • We aspire to be a community of learners who push boundaries and remain open to new possibilities.
  • We aspire to be a community where leadership is celebrated and encouraged.
  • We aspire to be a welcoming Catholic community in the spirit of inclusivity, diversity and connectedness.
  • We aspire to respond to and anticipate the needs of the college community in a changing world.

Each one of these aspirations sits central to our daily practice and conversations as we work towards building our learning community. As we grow and develop, we are constantly evaluating, redesigning and rethinking our processes and procedures, but what does not shift for us is the ‘why’ we exist. We will soon be launching our related annual actions for 2021; these will be communicated to the college community in the coming weeks.

Being part of a developing learning community is such a privilege. We are so blessed to have such wonderful resources, knowing that whilst we may not have everything right now, there are exciting things to come. An example of this is the development of the college oval and soccer pitch. You may have noticed there is a lush coverage of green grass on the sports grounds; it is almost ready for us to move out onto the space and provide extra play area for our children.

We held our first general information night on Wednesday and had a great turnout of families. We were scheduled to have our Foundation and Year 9 information night on Thursday, but given the unexpected change in the COVID situation, we were not able to go ahead with this on site. We feel the ‘in-person’ element of these nights is a vital part of their function so we chose to postpone, rather than move to an online presentation. However, there is a Year 9 slide presentation available on the college website for those who may have missed it at the end of last year. We will communicate with you as soon as we are able to reschedule the information night.

Our opening college Mass is scheduled for Friday, February 12. Unfortunately we will not be able to invite the wider community on site, but we will livestream the event - information regarding this will be communicated to families early next week.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued support and belief in what we are trying to achieve as a college. I look forward to the year ahead and many moments of celebrating the JOY in 2021!
