Startsmart Program visits VCAL Classes

VCAL Year 11 students participated in a number of financial literacy workshops held over two days by STARTSMART. Each workshop focused on a different topic in depth and explored various financial concepts such as understanding the impact of monetary choices, effective saving techniques and getting your first job. Our facilitator (Bree) engaged our students with her individual style and energy whilst exploring the various financial issues with hands-on, interactive examples.

The topics covered in our four workshops (Earning, Spending, Saving, Enterprise) included:

successful job interview techniques
award wages
employee rights and responsibilities
the value of saving
setting saving goals
bank accounts
strategies for saving
employee rights and responsibilities
award wages
tax thresholds
lodging tax returns
checking your pay slip
superannuation

Overall the workshops were worthwhile and hopefully our VCAL students have been equipped with money management skills and have been inspired into making discerning personal financial choices with confidence.
