Numeracy

Money, Money, Money!

Look out parents and grandparents - our Year 1 and 2 students have brushed up on their knowledge of Australian coins and notes and will be ready to test it out on a shopping spree! The students have loved learning about the value of our coins and notes and have been studying them so carefully that they can describe them perfectly! Are you familiar with the game 'Guess Who'? We would like to introduce you to a new game, Guess the Coin! We had a ball describing the features, colours and sizes of Australian coins as well as using some pretend money to do some shopping in the classroom.

But WAIT, that's not all! Term 3 has been full of fun, hands on maths for us. In addition to learning about money, our junior mathematicians have also learnt more about counting, place value, patterns and even multiplication. We have loved playing games like 'mastermind' and 'clumps' to warm our brains up for our maths lessons before moving onto hands on activities where we can explore familiar or new concepts. Whilst we may not be reciting our twelve times tables, we have enjoyed exploring multiplication through groups and arrays... we even built a city! Stay tuned for photos in the school newsletter of our Array Cities!

For now, we'll leave you with a joke to share with your family- our students have loved this one! We wonder if you've heard it before?

Why was 7 scared of 9? Because 7 ate 9!
