Foundation

This week the Foundation students finished making their amazing clucking chickens. Many students from other year levels were very excited to see these chickens and shared their own memories of making them during their first year at school. These noisy chickens are very famous at Bimbadeen! The foundation students used a template and practised their cutting skills to create the shape of their chicken and experimented with using a stapler to hold them together. Finally, they enjoyed ripping, scrunching and gluing different colours and textures of paper to make their chicken unique!

Year One and Two

The Year One and Two students have learnt about the order of the colours in the rainbow. They can use the acronym ROY G BIV to remember the correct order. The students practised using their weaving skills on a paper plate loom to create some beautiful rainbows. This was a quite new skill for many students, and we worked on having a go, trying our best and learning from our mistakes when faced with new challenges. They were so proud of how much they improved!

Year Three and Four

The Year Three and Four students have been working towards finishing their woven people. They created their own cardboard loom and have designed a person on paper first before using their weaving skills. The designs the students have created are very creative and they have shown great pride in completing their best work. Many students have shown great perseverance to work on these over several sessions and improve the accuracy of their weaving.

Year Five and Six

The Year Five and Six students have been working very hard on their sewing skills to create needle books. They learnt how to do basic skills such as thread a needle and tie knots; showing great resilience at times when this was challenging. The students practised more complex skills such as sewing on a button, using the running stitch and the blanket stitch. Some students are continuing to use these skills on other projects at school and at home.
