Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th November

After school in the Blue Hall

Are you on the hunt for some great books?  Looking ahead to Christmas?  Come along to the Book Fair! The Book Fair will not only build your home library, but build our school library as well.  The total amount of books sold will go directly to increasing the number of books in our school library.  This is a great opportunity that benefits both home and school.  Hope to see you there!

News from the Junior School Council

The Junior School Council will be implementing the Reverse Advent Calendar program to our school to make a difference to those struggling with food insecurity in Ballarat this Christmas.

A Reverse Advent Calendar begins as an empty box in each classroom and staffroom.  Each day from Monday, November 18th instead of taking something out of the box (like you do with a regular Advent Calendar) you put an item of food in.  The seventeen filled boxes will then be distributed to several Ballarat organisations who will give the boxes to families in need at Christmas time.

Tomorrow at school, all students will be given the name of the food or product that we request that they bring to school to go into the boxes.  If each child could bring one or two of the items that is requested then we will be able to fill the boxes before school concludes for the year.

News from the Kitchen Garden program

2019 has been an incredibly successful year for our Kitchen Garden program with students from Grades three to six being involved in preparing seasonal dishes representing many countries throughout the world.  Our program has been blessed with an abundance of volunteers who ensure that our students feel supported by a caring and generous Miners Rest community.  With this year’s Grade six students commencing secondary school next year, many of their parents and grandparents who volunteer in kitchen will also leave the program.  For the future of the program we need to replace those volunteers. With this year’s Grade 2 students joining us in 2020 I invite the parents and grandparents of those children to volunteer.  The classes are two hours long and the volunteer roster is made a term ahead so you will have plenty of notice.  If you are interested in volunteering in 2020 or require further information please leave your name and contact details at the office as soon as possible.
