Parents & Friends

What a great Twilight Fair

From our P&F Chairperson - Mrs Kate Gill

The weather cleared wonderfully on Friday to enable our collective efforts to be enjoyed by all who attended our Twilight Fair.  Feedback received to date suggests the fair had a wonderful community atmosphere which is very satisfying to hear.

A warm thank you to each and every person who honoured their commitment to LCS and gave some of their time. As parents, what a blessing it is for our children to see our willingness to serve and contribute toward an event that is for their enjoyment and benefit.  An event that requires a huge team effort to pull off, as well as requires many to give far more time than the minimal requirement of an hour.   I am extremely grateful to each of the fair committee members, parent representatives and staff members who assisted with the planning, preparations and management on the night.

Student participation at the fair is always encouraged, a huge thank you to the parents and teachers who supported students and thank you to the students themselves.  We had students making items for stalls, students rostered to serve on stalls, and some even ran their own stalls.  Well done and I do trust your hard work was rewarded.  Did you know that each year the community of neighbours to LCS are contacted ahead of the fair and provided with an invitation to attend inclusive of a voucher for a bag of oliebollen?  This year there were 27 of these vouchers redeemed. This is pretty cool.

There are two individuals who deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts on fair day.  I think it would be remiss of me not to name and thank them.  Their contribution went way beyond my expectations. I am so incredibly grateful for their efforts.  As many of you are aware, for several years now, the Parents and Friends have been seeking assistance from willing parents to run the Oliebollen and Croquette stall.

A team is needed to manage this stall.  There are several key roles required to ensure the stall runs smoothly.  The more parents that join this team, the less each individual will be required to do.  When I went to bed on Thursday night prior to the fair, I was yet to know how God was going to meet the need of having someone else mix the oliebollen for the fair so that I would be able to meet my fair obligations for the day.  Albeit some motivation was drawn from being able to miss their afternoon classes… but let's not take anything away from this effort - Caleb Poole and Harrison Gill, two Year 8 boys, gave up most of their Friday, including the majority of their lunch break, to learn and mix the oliebollen.  At the start of their lunch break, they happened to ask what they could do to help.  These two young men mixed for hours, they ended up mixing over two-thirds of the oliebollen batches cooked at the fair until they were able to hand over to others so that they could go and enjoy the fair themselves.  Well done Cubby and Harry – you both nailed it!  Just love your servant hearts, your efforts were noticed and greatly appreciated by many, especially this proud mamma!

The final meeting for the Parents and Friends will be held on Tuesday 26th November, please know you are welcome to attend.  This meeting will be an opportunity to debrief the fair, celebrate the year and tie up some loose ends.  If you are not able to attend but would like to provide feedback, please be encouraged to email pandf@lcs.tas.edu.au

P&F Treasurer needed in 2020

Our current Treasurer of the Parents & Friends Association, Barbara Knight, will be resigning from her role in mid 2020.  Barbara has faithfully served our school community for many years and we've been extremely grateful for her wonderful guidance and wisdom.  Thank you so much Barbara for all the time you have spent helping and supporting our school community - you have been a great blessing to us all!

As our Twilight Fair is coming up soon, this is an opportunity for someone in our school community to consider working along side Barbara, learning the ropes of what a Treasurer does before she steps down.  This is especially needed given our Fair is supported each year by a well organised Finance area.  We ask that you prayerfully consider if you can take on this important role in our P&F as it's a vital part of our P&F team.

If you'd like to know more or are interested in taking up this role in the future (mid 2020), please contact our P&F by email:   PnF@lcs.tas.edu.au
