National Science Olympiad Winners!

Congratulations to Year 11 students Andrew and David James for their outstanding results in the National Science Olympiad Exams this year.  The Science Olympiads comprise of various exams that outstanding students in their sphere can elect to take;  Andrew chose Physics and David chose Biology.

In the examination, students are competing against the top science students from around Australia for a place in the Science Olympiads Summer School at the Australian National University Canberra over the summer holidays; this is a 15 day intensive program. The top 100 students, with highest marks, from right around Australia are selected for this Summer School. They then sit another exam at the end of the Summer School and the top 17 students (from the exam) are selected for the International Science Olympiads in July.

In the end, Andrew performed exceptionally well, receiving a Distinction in Physics.  David’s result was outstanding, with a High Distinction in Biology and an offer to the Summer School at ANU in Canberra this Summer. If he does well at the end of this summer School, he could also possibly be offered a place at the International Science Olympiads in Nagasaki Japan in July.  Well done Andrew and David for your outstanding achievements!

Thanks for our Twilight Fair!

Wasn't this year's fair great?  We thought so and we want to thank everyone in our school community for their support in making such a huge event happen.  There was a great community feel to the fair and as always lots of tasty stalls to visit to keep people happy.  Thank you to all our parents, students, teachers and staff for serving at our fair.  A HUGE thank you to our Parents & Friends Association and especially Kate Gill and Barbara Knight who work tirelessly behind the scenes.  Check out our P&F page for more...

Senior Art Display

Our Year 10 - 12 students exhibited a beautiful range of art pieces this week.  Not only were people treated to the Year 11 & 12 art that was displayed for end of year assessment but our staff room was filled with a wonderful, vibrant display from our Year 10 students.

A large crowd of parents and students attended to enjoy the work and some highlights from the evening are shown here.  Amazing talent from all our students and thank you to Mr Kevin Lund and Ms Alison Cooper-White for a beautiful display of pieces.  The cheese and delicious apple slice also went down very well - thanks to our HEC Aides, Serena van Donselaar & Caroline Bain!

Life Skills Celebration

This week our Life Skills students celebrated a wonderful year of achievement by having a special afternoon tea with parents, teachers and LCS Leadership.  The group also congratulated three year 10 students who will be moving on to Year 11 & 12 at our school.  Check out the great Life Skills AV shown!

What a great cubby house design!

There was plenty of fun and excitement in our Kinder class this week when one of our Life Skills students, Hudson Summers presented a project he had designed and built - a temporary cubby play house! Lots of smiles from our students - what an awesome design! Well done for presenting a great project !

Orientation Day for new students in 2020

It turned out to be a sunny day for our Orientation Day for new students in 2020.  We have over 78 new students so far joining our school in 2020 and more on the way!  Some of our new and current parents took the opportunity to connect and get to know each other on the day.  It's great to see our school community growing and current parents welcoming our new families to our school.

LCS General Association Meeting - you're invited

Thursday 28th November @ 7:30pm

All LCS parents are invited to attend the next LCS Association meeting.  There is an element of this meeting that will be the normal business of the LCS Association.  Things like:

  • Passing of the minutes of the previous General Meeting in 2018,
  • Business arising from the minutes,
  • Presentation of the Budget
  • Chairman’s Report
  • Principal’s Report
  • General Business

Only members and associate members of the Association have authority to vote on any matters discussed.  Non-members are invited to attend in an observer capacity.

The main reason for opening this meeting up to whole LCS community is the choice of Guest Speaker to the gathering.

Mike Vos, the State Executive Officer for Christian Education National will be speaking to the meeting about issue of Religious Freedom.  His talk is titled “What’s this Religious Freedom Stuff?”

This is a topical issue, especially for Christian schools like LCS.  Come and hear Mike discuss this to be better informed in your own thinking and your conversations with friends and family.  We hope to see you there.

Peloton visit our Year 5 & 6 Students

Last Friday a peloton from Melbourne stopped over at LCS for a short break to speak to our Year 5 and 6 students.  On Thursday, the cyclists had ridden to the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Melbourne, travelled overnight across Bass Strait, and on Friday, cycled the 100 km to Launceston.   They are taking part in a ride from Melbourne to Hobart, to raise funds to support cancer research. There are 4 pelotons completing the tour.  As part of their tour, they also visit schools to bring a message of keep fit, keep healthy and keep happy, as ways of preventing serious disease. Students mingled with the cyclists and participated in some fun fitness activities. All Junior School students were given a pack as a gift and reminder of the importance of healthy choices.  Our school received a framed thank you poster and really enjoyed the chance to meet the group.  It was exciting for LCS to find out about the plans this group of keen cyclists have while they are visiting Tasmania.
