Learning and Teaching Update

Pathways Expo - Save the Date!

The 2019 Pathways Expo will be held at the  College on the evening of  Tuesday 23 July.

The evening is designed to provide an opportunity for our current Year 9 and 10 students and their parents to attend information sessions in the Auditorium and to visit the expo in the Hall.

Each Learning Area will have displays of subjects offered in Year 10, VCE and VCAL. There will also be many universities and other training organisations in attendance to provide information about pathways post school.

Further information and booking details will be circulated to parents/carers via PAM.

Studying at Home

Recently I came across an article in The Age, ‘Is silence always golden when it comes to studying? Yes and no’. It makes for interesting reading as it discusses what type of music, if any, is appropriate when studying. Many of our students listen to music at home when they are studying but this article refers to research that suggests it may not be best for studying and the type of music is very important. Smartphones are definitely distracting and should be out of sight and out of mind!

Learning Mentors

We are pleased to announce that we will have Learning Mentors in the Library from 3.30pm-5.00pm pm on most afternoons (Monday - Thursday).

What is a Learning Mentor?

They are students who have recently graduated from Kilbreda and we have invited them back to school to assist students with homework and general study.

The Learning Mentors are available to help any student with their homework or study for exams. They are not there to provide individual tutoring but more generalised assistance for all students, including VCE/ VCAL.

The Learning Mentors schedule will be published on student notices on SIMON each week.

Communication Flow and partnerships with our Community

Parents/ carers, teachers, significant family members and other adults, all play a vital role in our students’ education. It is in everyone’s interest to make sure our young people get the best education possible and it is something we should work on together. From time to time, there will be issues that arise and the sooner we can start a conversation, the better it is for everyone involved.

The flow chart below outlines whom you should contact if you have a concern and the next steps in the process if you feel that the matter warrants further discussion. The staff at Kilbreda College are committed to building these important partnerships with our community.
