Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to Fr Patrick

This week we congratulate Fr Patrick on the 30th Anniversary of his ordination as a Priest. Unfortunately, he has not been able to celebrate this with either the parish or school community but we thank him for his very sacred vocation, commitment to all of us and our faith, and for his service to the Catholic Church, the people of the church, over the last 30 yea

We hope to celebrate with Fr Patrick in person very soon but join us for this week's online assembly as we acknowledge him.

Free Choice Fridays- time for fun and a focus on wellbeing

This week, as part of our Book Week celebrations, teachers provided students with free choice, optional activities on Friday. We recognise the strain families are under and the need for time to focus on children’s physical, mental and social needs as we enter into the last few weeks of the term.

Therefore, on the Fridays of Weeks 8, 9 and 10, students will be able to select from a choice of fun activities. These activities are optional and are intended to be as device-free as possible. We hope that by providing a selection of common activities for Kindergarten to Year 6 students, that families with more than one child may choose to do some of the activities together.

The activities are not mandatory and there is no requirement to upload finished activities onto Seesaw. They should just be shared with the family to enjoy.

The link to the Friday Free Choice activities will be provided with the Weekly Learning Schedule at 5:00pm on Sunday. I hope that Fridays will be a time of less stress and relaxation for your children and you.

Thank you once again to all families who are able to keep their children home during this time. We understand it can be very challenging, but by limiting the number of students at school to only those who have no option to stay home, we are able to keep all students, staff, and school families as safe as possible. A reminder that students should be at home if parents are working from home.

St Joseph, pray for us.

When can I send my child to school for supervision?

The current Public Health Order makes it clear that it is only acceptable to “leave home for education if it is not possible to do it at home”

In line with this government directive, families are only able to send their children to school at this time if there is absolutely no option for them to learn from home. There are reasons this may be the case:

  • Every responsible person in your household, besides children, is an essential worker e.g.
    • frontline health worker or
    • in another occupation that requires you to physically attend a work location during school hours, parents who work at home should always consider the responsibility to keep children at home
  • Your child has pastoral care needs, discussed with the principal
  • There are other extenuating circumstances, discussed with the principal

Students have access to the same learning materials and experience whether they are at school or at home, and there is no advantage for students who are supervised at school.

Principal Awards and Merit Awards

The Merit Awards will be included in the Weekly Assembly video on Friday. Certificates will be included in this week's learning packs.

Principals Awards will resume at a later date to be advised.
