Return to School

The good news is we returned on Tuesday from our sixth window of our Remote Learning Program.  Our Junior School learning community is again to be complimented on their ability to quickly pivot and transition into remote learning mode. Some restrictions remain in place. These include density limits that unfortunately prevent parents visiting classrooms and restrictions on non-essential visitors to the Junior School. All Year 6 students will again be required to wear masks when attending the Senior School. I strongly encourage parents of students on the longer Warrnambool, Mortlake, Portland and Balmoral bus runs to ensure their children wear masks to and from school. Community sport and training recommences, but with no spectators. Our Class Assemblies and House Services will remain online.

As Term Three continues, we will keep you updated and hopefully theses restriction will be eased.

Jeans for Genes Day

Unfortunately, last Friday we were in lockdown and missed the opportunity to celebrate ‘Jeans for Genes Day’ in person. We will run this important fundraiser tomorrow (Friday 13 August). Students and staff will be ‘donning the denim’ and raising money for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. The 1 in 20 kids facing a birth defect or genetic disease are used to hearing words like “incurable” or “lifelong effects”. It doesn’t have to be this way. Right now, we’re working on gene therapy to find cures for previously incurable genetic diseases. A genetic disease is a serious condition caused, at least in part, by changes in our DNA. While often inherited, many happen ‘out of the blue’ due to chance occurrences. There are more than 6000 different genetic diseases. Most are poorly understood and have no specific treatments or cures. Please bring a gold coin donations to support this wonderful cause.

Wellness Week

Each year we set aside a week in Term Three to celebrate ‘Wellness Week’. Whilst the wellbeing of all our Junior School students is at the core of everything we do, it is exciting to set aside a week for special activities. Thank you to Mrs. Milich and the Kids Matter team for all their thought and planning.

Motivational Monday - Music under the shade shelter at lunchtime

Therapeutic Tuesday - PJs Day with a lunchtime movie and popcorn.

Wellbeing Wednesday - Mindfulness breaks during the day

Thoughtful Thursday - You and your class wear a touch of colour

Friendship Friday - Classes to partner up and share some time together.

Learmonth House Service

Congratulations to Ms Brabham and the Learmonthians on last week’s excellent online House Service. Their theme of ‘Determination’ was very timely in terms of the Tokyo Olympic Games and our rolling lockdowns. Thanks also to Mr. Mitchell Clode and Mr. James Leversha for their considerable assistance with the streamed House Service.
