SPORT REPORT

SCHOOL SPORT

Mount Eliza Secondary College is a special community and I’m always thankful to be part of an extremely collegiate and hardworking Health and PE team. The team have worked tirelessly to continue building opportunities for our students to be physically active, competitive and experience extra-curricular activities outside of the core Health and PE curriculum.

COVID-19 is however proving to be a strong opponent in the consecutive year of the global pandemic so our students have had lots of exciting opportunities cancelled or postponed. Rest assured, we are continuing to work together in the rebooking of snow camps and rescheduling of sporting events to ensure our students remain physically active and healthy.

Even with all of the disappointment of the past year, there are still many sporting successes that we can celebrate resulting from the inter-school SSV District sporting carnivals in Term 2. I’m pleased to announce the following results:

NETBALL PROGRAM

After a successful application late in term 2, our College has been fortunate to receive grant funding from Sporting Schools to further encourage and support the participation of girls in sport. Netball Victoria will be partnering with Mount Eliza Secondary College to conduct 6 coaching sessions during the last 5 weeks of term 3. This provides girls from the College access to additional sporting opportunities aimed to increase their participation in sport, enhancing self-confidence and life-long participation in physical activity.

Unfortunately, these sessions are only provided for girls in year 7 and 8 as this is one of the conditions for the funding we have received. We are hoping there will be additional support provided so a wider spread of students are able to access programs outside of the current Health and PE program. There are still a limited number of places in the program, please follow the instructions below if you would like to reserve a place for your daughter.

  1. Go to ONE of the events named 'Netball Victoria Wednesday Session' or 'Netball Victoria Thursday Session'.
  2. Opt in if you would like to reserve a place for your child.
  3. Decline if you do not want the opportunity.
  4. The cost is $0 thanks to the School Sports Australia funding.
  5. Please ONLY select one session so there are opportunities for more students.

Sessions will take place on the outdoor basketball courts from 3pm-4pm.

** Please note Register as per below, dates will be amended based on COVID guidelines.

  • Wednesday 18th August to Wednesday 15th September. (1 session per week on Wednesdays)
  • Thursday 19th August to Thursday 16th September. (1 session per week on Thursdays)

Please note that your child does not have to have any netball experience to take up this opportunity and if not, we would highly encourage you to opt in to the event.
