MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM
MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM
We would like to say “Well done!” to our Middle Year Program students being resilient and engaged when faced with the challenges of multiple remote learning!
You have shown great ability to put your best foot forward under difficult and unusual circumstances by staying connected, organised and independent – what a fantastic effort!
LOOKING AFTER OUR WELL-BEING
One of the ways to maintain resilience is to look after ourselves – which we encourage our students and parents to do. Simple strategies:
AWARD ASSEMBLIES
Award Assemblies were held last week over Teams.
Congratulations to all our Years 7 to 9 students who have received awards – we have an impressive list of our wonderful students who have displayed the following IB Learner Profile Attributes through their work in Semester 1:
- Open Minded
- Inquirers
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Knowledgeable
- Risk-takers
- Principled
SERVICE AS ACTION TERM 3
As part of the MYP programme – each year level is given the opportunity to consider their place in the community and what it means to be a Global Citizen. This opportunity takes the form of their “Service as Action” which asks the students to positively plan and contribute to their communities.
YEAR 9 COMMUNITY PROJECT
The Community Project is a mainstay of the MYP programme which allows the students to demonstrate their IB learner profiles in an inquiry project that is student driven. This year has presented a similar issue to last year in that the students have had to navigate lockdown and restrictions to their planning and acting out their projects. The teams are working hard: from exploring the impact of feral cats on the Mornington Peninsula wildlife population, coordinating the donation of food to help the homeless to raising awareness of the impacts of horse-racing, the students have developed a diverse range of projects to be completed by the end of Term. Please support your child by inquiring about their project, asking questions can unearth potential obstacles or pathways that they had not considered yet.
YEAR 8 CONNECT AND MAP YOUR WORLD
In an act to make this school the best it can be, year 8 students collaborated and became agents of change, debating ideas close to our hearts, coming to a consensus, working our way to achieve our goals and taking action.
We were thoughtfully guided by our student well-being youth worker Jess Lowe and Tim Gordon from Fusion, deciding on what we’d like to change at a school, local community, national or global level, creating a poster and writing a pitch which we then presented to a leadership panel.

SLAM POETRY
PANDEMIC:
I get up in the morning, with a constant wake up warning
I log into teams, but tend to daydream
Being stuck inside, can take away my pride
Saying here on repeat, can always get me beat
The constant feeling of loneliness, can only end me up with stress
I’m bored out of my mind like I’m playing a game of chess
Work, worrying, wariness
I sit here alone, with no where to go
But in the end, its time to start again

COVID 19
They said it’d get better in 2021, but covid 19 is second to none.
Thriving communities torn to the ground, and online opportunities are going around.
Some don’t get paid, their lives delayed.
Last breaths, all the deaths, it’s up to us to aid.
The best we can do is stay in town, follow the rules especially in lockdown.
As people contaminate, cases fluctuate, so we. MUST VACCINATE

FAMILY
How important is family to you?
Could you live without it?
Could you know love without it?
To me, family is not just a branching tree to see the path that my ancestors have lead down to me, and it isn’t just a title, because to me, family is vital.
You can’t just let your family hang from the thread of a string or let it be held together by a mere wedding ring, family is… everything.
Family can’t be constructed by a machine, or made from plasticine because family is a team, without family you are left alone, and on your own.
Furthermore, we must fathom the fact that family is forever, its no fable that family is the reason why we feel for our friends and for our foes.
Family is a love that can be spread and it’s just like Dominic Toretto said, “I don’t need a 2012 GT Ford Mustang, I got family”.

STRESS
Look in the mind,
Of one of our kind,
And one little thing you may find,
Is stress,
You won’t feel the best,
You feel a heat in your chest,
And as a person you may feel less,
Feel the pressure of a wave pushing down on you,
Telling you that you can’t push through
So many bad thoughts in your head,
Feel so trapped as you lie in bed,
I’m not good enough,
they want me dead,
these thoughts fill your mind,
Try and hide them and just be kind,
It gets hard at times to keep a happy face on,
It’s like a mask away from the daily take on’s
Make you feel down,
Feel like a clown,
Give you a frown,
But I’ll be here to give you a crown,
Because I'm proud,
Of you,
And everything you’ve done,
Every little thing you’ve overcome,
so, when you feel lost,
I’ll be the light,
I’ll be the sun.
