STEINER REPORT
YEAR 7 G
7G had the joyous privilege of being the first class to use the new Lego sets. We have been learning about Forces and Simple Machines; a great opportunity to use the Simple Machines Lego sets to learn about levers, incline planes, pulleys, gear, wheels and axles and screws. Next stop: Space. The year 7 students will use what they know about Forces and Simple Machines to design a machine to be used in space!
THE SISTINE CHAPEL CHALLENGE
Year 7/8 S and 7/8 T had a small taste of what Michelangelo endured whilst painting on the ceiling.
Between 1508 and 1512, under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling, a masterpiece without precedent, that was to change the course of Western art.
Whilst 7/8 S and T only painted up side down for a period, they were in complete admiration of the four years Michelangelo spent painting upside down and the legacy he left.
It’s said that it took him a further year to stop reading his mail with his head pointed to the sky. Classes 7/8 S and T got a tiny taste of the skill and agony of painting on a ceiling above them when they were challenged to paint or draw on a paper taped to the underside of their table! What for you ask? We are in the middle of our Renaissance Main Lesson, a 3 week study of the art, science, religion and society of the Renaissance period and the impact of this time in history on the lives we live today.
