Classroom News

Junior Class - Mrs Creek

Our class joins a whole school literacy focus this week, showcasing the writing embedded within books. Our book is titled ‘My Two Blankets’ by Irena Kabold. This story has also been translated into other languages for all to enjoy. Did you know that the word blanket can be used as a noun, verb or adjective depending upon how you use it within a sentence? Our class brought along their favourite blankets to talk about.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week the Year 2 and 3 students have been working on writing with the book ‘Mallee Sky’. It has been wonderful to be able to focus on a place closer to home after last week’s book ‘Are We There Yet’ with a trip around Australia. This week we have learnt about what a drought is and also some of us have learnt what eucalypts are. We have been listening to, drawing and analysing a sentence from the book to be able to use the way the authors Jodi Toering and Tannya Harricks write in our own writing. In maths we are working on finishing module 8 with time for Year 3s and informal measurements of capacity for Year 2s.

Senior Class - Ms Murphy

This week we have spent some time thinking about our writing and how others write. We have been busy developing and enriching our use of language in our own writing, finding better words to use and creating knowledge to build terrific writing skills! Our text of choice was Mallee Sky by Jodi Toering and Tannya Harricks. We had a lot of existing knowledge to bring to our writing! So we have quickly developed ‘rich’ conversations around the language and words used in our text. We have made deep connections to the story and its setting, the Mallee. We will continue further with this and hope to share our transformations of our focus sentence with Miss Williams’ class who have also read Mallee Sky! I think our next challenge will be to create connections with something unfamiliar to us! You might like to discuss some of the new knowledge your child/ren have developed around the Mallee…  you’ll be surprised what you might learn!
