Lit Week 2021 at St. Joseph’s College

It was a grand Lit Week 2021, albeit a challenging one, as we took all our activities online during remote learning.  Student participation was fantastic in a range of great activities, including the following (more information next newsletter):

Six Word Story Competition

Poppy, Cooper and Dulcie entered thought-provoking and well-illustrated stories to claim top spots in the Lit Week 2021 celebration of the power of words and reading.

When we are back onsite, call in to the Library to see the display of entries and examples of powerful, comic, chilling and sad Six Word Stories … and if you’ve always wanted to be an author, why not give it a go and save your work ready to enter next year’s competition.

First Line from a Book Competition

Congratulations to everyone who submitted an entry to First Line from a Book Competition.

There was a draw with the Learning Mentor Group entries - Patrick4 submitted first for two days and Delany2 submitted first for two days!  No homeroom submitted on Friday - that would have been the tie breaker!

Winners of the Lit Week T-shirt for being first in with a correct answer each day were:

Bronte Tabone 8 Br, Ariel Howe 7De, Ty Irvine 12 Br, Jaime Nunan 9 Mo, Brayden Pike 9 Br.

Well done.

Winners of the Reading Bingo were :

Kaylea Blake 8 D4, Chloe Heald 9 P4, Claire Colturi 8 N4, Abbey Collins 7 M5, Dulcie O’Connell.

Individual winners of the Bingo each receive a Lit Week T-shirt.  We also had a House entry and that was B7.  There will be a prize for the homeroom on return to school.

Three weeks to go!  Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

It would be great to see as many students as possible complete the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge by the end of term. There are 65 students (a fantastic figure) logged onto the Challenge BUT are yet to complete it.  Students who have registered in the VPRC can access ebooks on the Library Catalogue via SIMON if they don't have books at home to read.

So far 14 students have completed the Challenge.  Congratulations to the latest students to complete the PRC:  Lexie Stranger Yr 7,  Alyra Holland Yr 8,  and Georgia Armstrong Yr 7.
