5-6 Food Tech

Food Tech News

Although it has been challenging not being able to have face-to-face time in the kitchen, many Year 5 students continue to engage in the learning activities.

Through these learning tasks, students classified pantry and fridge ingredients onto categories and honed in on some important measuring must have knowledge. These skills are essential for reading recipes and problem solving in the kitchen.

The last few weeks of this term revises all the techniques learnt and students are encouraged to practise skills, reflect on their cooking and make an effort to tailor recipes to their taste or preference using healthy ingredients. See pics of students making vegetable muffins and slices below:

Aaron 5D practised whisking, grating and stirring “it was hard work but I loved it”

Zara 5C made delicious cheesy vegetable muffins.

Ashlee 5E demonstrated her “rock and chop” knife skills and......

....changed up the recipe by adding feta cheese.

Luka 5E used a round cake tin for his vegetable slice. Fantastic problem solving and thinking outside the square!
