Dear Brookside Community,

As we come to the end of what has been another unique and at times challenging term, we would like to once again thank all of the parents, students and staff in the Brookside community. Hearing the stories of success and support provided to one another makes us proud to be part of this community. It is timely that this week we celebrate R U OK? Day and use it as an opportunity to check in with one another.

R U OK? Day

The annual R U OK? Day event was celebrated nationally on Thursday 10th of September.

Brookside College takes part in this mental health awareness event by supporting the important message of asking people in our lives: ‘R U OK?’ In place of our weekly characters strength focus, classroom and homegroup teachers will be speaking to students in their daily Zooms about R U OK? Day each day this week.

Through this, we aim to encourage ourselves and others to take action by seeking help when faced with life’s challenges, especially during these trying times.

Despite the circumstances this year, we have collaborated with community organisations including Headspace, BATYR, and Brimbank Youth Services to run various activities and events for students and staff throughout this week so we can all celebrate R U OK? Day 2020.

Remember - a conversation could change a life!

Brookside College Network News # 5 - Student News Production

If you haven’t done so already then check out the latest edition of Brookside College Network News for you to enjoy this weekend! BCN is student produced and lead by our incredible year 9 College captains Taha, Jerusalem, Jayden and Selam. This is our 5th publication and features items such as our Principal update, Premiers Reading Challenge segment, SAKG, Year 9 English movie feature as well as a wrap up of students enjoying their daily zooms.

Victorian Premiers Readers Challenge

Congratulations 4C, 2A, Prep C and Prep D who have all completed the challenge. In 2017, 848 students registered and 331 completed the challenge.

In 2019, 1293 students were registered and only 124 students completed the challengeThe VPR challenge, 2020 has been extended and students now have until the end of term to add books to their list.

So far this year, we have 1191 students registered and 105 students completed the challenge. We are getting there and there is still a little time left to encourage your class to enter their books. Let’s do our best to beat last year’s total!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you for the participation of parents, students and staff in Brookside College’s first virtual Parent Teacher Interviews. This was an opportunity to highlight the success students have achieved and set goals moving into Term 4. I am sure parents enjoyed not having to spend time searching for a carpark and instead could wait in the comfort of their own home.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend!
