Principal's Message

Remote Learning

Congratulations to staff, students and parents for their ongoing commitment to remote learning. Staff continue to evolve and adapt our remote learning curriculum to meet the learning needs of our students. Our focus has been to ensure students are connected, engaged and continue to develop their learning, specifically in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy.

As you would be aware, plans are underway to welcome students back to school in Term 4. This is fantastic news and we are all very excited by the prospect of having students back on-site.  We continue to wait on specific details but we do know the following information for Term 4.

  • Week 1
    • Remote learning will continue for all students. Students who qualify to attend on site (permitted worker parents and vulnerable students) will continue to do so.
  • Week 2
    • Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will return to school along with their teachers. Parents will be notified of these arrangements once we receive further information from DET.
    • Year 3-6 students will continue to work remotely (Their return to school will be subject to health advice)
    • Students who qualify to attend on site (permitted worker parents and vulnerable students) will continue to do so.

  • Clem (56R) for producing some fantastic art works during remote art.
  • Students (and their Dads) who participated in our online Father’s Day Breakfast last Friday-it was a most enjoyable morning.
  • Students across the school, for showing great resilience during online learning.
  • Year 6 students, who have recently been informed of their secondary school preference for next year.

As we near the completion of Term 3, we reflect on the many experiences we have been confronted with so far this year.  It has been a year like no other, with unbelievable challenges and changes that have tested our resilience, changed our attitudes and developed our ability to cope with the unknown.

This morning, I was listening to the radio and came across a leadership mentor (amongst many other titles), Ben Crowe, who has worked with many sporting clubs, athletes, corporations and businesses spreading his message of connection and storytelling. He was referring to the challenges we are all currently dealing with. He provided some messages that really resonated with me.

  • Attack new problems with curiosity, we often attack them with catastrophising.
  • See new challenges as opportunities and not problems.
  • Do less, Be More!

During these times of self-reflection and uncertainty, he focuses on three questions.

  1. Who am I? – Connection
  2. What do I want? – Purpose
  3. How do I get there? – Performance

If you are interested in reading more about his philosophy, he provides podcasts, information and online webinars. These can be found at mojocrowe.com. It’s worth checking out.

Given this will be our last newsletter for the term, I would like to thank staff for their continued professionalism and focus towards our students during remote learning.  The staff work in partnership with parents to provide the best possible opportunities for each young person to prosper. It is only through supporting and encouraging our students that they can present their personal best.  I wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday period. Thank you for your support throughout what has been another challenging term.
