Performing Arts Festival 2018 Final Concert

Performing Arts News

Our participation in the 2018 Performing Arts Festival continues, and all OLA students in Year 1 to Year 6 are having the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of appreciative audiences. This is affording our students valuable and authentic opportunities to develop their musical, public speaking and dramatic skills, and of course their confidence and self-esteem. The feedback we are receiving from adjudicators, spectators and of course families is very encouraging. While the Festival emphasises participation over competition, our success this year is particularly noteworthy. This week, we received notification that our Year 5 received an 'Outstanding Award' in the Primary Musical section, with their very lively and energetic performance of an extract from, Matilda: The Musical, and they will be awarded the Primary Musical Shield at the conclusion of the Festival. Our Recorder Club, who also received an 'Outstanding Award', are invited to a play-off against other primary music ensembles for the Primary Instrumental Ensemble Shield, and this play-off will take place on Friday 31 August.  In addition, we received notification that both our Year 1 Class Choir and our Year 3 Class Choir have received 'Merit Awards.'

The final class to take the stage is our Year 2, and they will perform in the Choral Verse Section on Monday, giving a delightful rendition of, The Shark by Roald Dahl.

Well done to all our students!

Instrumental Tuition Term 3

If your child receives instrumental tuition at OLA, the tutors will be in contact directly with you to schedule lessons for the term. We currently offer tuition in piano, drums, violin, flute and guitar. Later this term, our guitar tutor, Luke Gallagher, will be going to Nashville USA to play some gigs, and continue to develop his professional and personal contact with some of the ‘greats’ of his industry. During his absence, his pupils will be coached by Joe Simich, who has already worked with our students. All our tutors (and any replacements) are highly skilled in music as well as in pedagogy, and have up to date Working With Children checks.  For further information, please feel free to call to the Music Room, or email me at mary.mcauliffe@cewa.edu.au
