Principal's Message

A Prayer for Friendship

Dear Lord,

Teach me to love others the way you first loved me. As I build relationships with others, let them see you in the extent of my generosity, the authenticity of my kindness, and the depths of my love.

All of those things are only possible through you, the God who abides with me and calls me friend.

Amen.

Book Week

What an exciting week we have had at OLA celebrating Book Week. Thank you to Mrs Durkin and Mrs Dale for coordinating the events that have been held throughout the week. The children enjoyed the Book Week musical incursion, Treasure Hunt. A HUGE effort was made by all on Wednesday for the Book Week Dress-up Parade, and the children loved having stories read to them by different teachers - 2G especially loved listening to Mr Martin's rendition of, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!  Here are some photos from the week.

Performing Arts Festival Update

Well done to our Year 1 and Year 3 students who received a Merit Award for their performance in the Primary Choral Singing section of the Festival.

Congratulations also to our Year 5 students who received an Outstanding Award for their performance of Matilda in the Primary Musical section on Monday. They are also to be commended for being the recipient of the Catholic Primary Principals’ Award for Musical Excerpt (Primary) - what an amazing achievement! Well done to everyone involved in preparing the students!

Our final performance will be our Year 2 students on Monday. We wish them good luck with their Choral Verse piece.

Family Mass - Change of Date

The OLA Family Mass will be held on Sunday, 9 September, at 9.30am. This is to coincide with the celebration of Our Lady's birthday.

Welcome Back

This week, we welcomed back Mrs Jenni Hutton from her Long Service Leave. We thank Mrs Viv Farrugia who replaced Mrs Hutton during her time away.

Fathers' Day Breakfast and Mass

This year, we will be holding a Fathers' Day Breakfast and Mass on Friday 31 August. Please email your eldest child's class teacher to let them know how many family members will be attending the breakfast. The attached flyer has more information about this special event. We hope many of the father figures in our students' lives can join us on the day!

Late Arrivals

Just a reminder that students arriving after 9am must be signed in by an adult at the front office. Your child's arrival time is to be recorded on the iPad so that our attendance register can be updated. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

Reconciliation Date Change

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to reschedule the Year Three Sacrament of Penance that was scheduled for Tuesday 23 October at 7pm. We are currently liaising with Fr. Ken to determine another date. We will notify Year Three parents via email as soon as we have more information.

NAPLAN Student Readiness Test

Over the coming weeks, the Year Five students will be taking part in an online Student Readiness Test in preparation for the move to online NAPLAN Testing in 2019. This trial involves the children completing a sample writing assessment and an Omnibus (mixed) assessment to explore the tools and functions of the online system.

Have a great weekend!
