BSC HOUSE NAMES

GET INVOLVED- NEW HOUSE NAMES SUGGESTIONS FOR BSC

The student leadership team, led by the College Captains have been working with students and staff on changing the BSC house names and have consulted staff and students and discovered that the majority would support changing the names, so that they are more representative of modern day values. Surveys have been conducted and the majority of students and staff agree that the house names should be changed.

 

The four BSC houses are currently named after four English, white male ship captains who colonised Australia. 

 

We invite students, staff and families to consider getting involved in this. Please email collegecaptain@brightonsc.vic.edu.au OR alternatively a survey has been emailed to students to complete via TEAMS.

 

NEW HOUSE NAMES CRITERIA

When suggesting potential house names please follow the criteria below:

 

1. Names must be Australian related - Significant person (can be dead or alive and they must have had a positive impact on society or and/or have directly positively impacted our school.

 

If choosing people, carefully consider:

  • What values/views they might represent 
  • They are inclusive of gender/sexuality/religion/race/ethnicity
  • A range of professionals/fields (e.g sport, politics, arts) 

If choosing people, please conduct thorough research, consider their actions as if they are found to not be representative of the school values they will not be chosen. 

2. Native plant or animal (consider plants and animals that are local to the Brighton area)

 

Keep in mind when making your choice/s:

  • The school values (RECITE- respect, excellence, curiosity, integrity, teamwork and empathy)
  • These names will have to be used in chants, put on banners, used during house events (Tip: try and make it catchy!!!)
  • These are going to represent the school, so please take this seriously and keep them appropriate and suitable
  • something specifically related to Brighton Secondary College
  • How does the name relate to BSC and our values?

All criteria must be completed to be considered
