PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

From the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends,
Albus Dumbledore, in the film “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” observed that kindness is, ”…a trait people never fail to undervalue, I’m afraid.”
As we grind towards the end of the stage four lockdown (hopefully!) and the term, I think it’s a trait worth spending a moment reflecting on.
In these challenging times, the value of kindness, and the great worth of those amongst us who exhibit that trait, becomes starkly apparent. This is because in times of little challenge, acts of kindness, those selfless actions which bring comfort to others, can become invisible, dismissed, or lost in the general ease of living our lives. During these times, those acts stand out because we all yearn to be cared for when life seems uncertain, unstable, and risky. Now, more than ever, we need to be kind to each-other.
I think if we all stopped a little more to consider life from the perspective of others, perhaps we can put ourselves in a position where we can act with kindness more often. After thinking about how others might be experiencing life, your act of kindness could be making someone a cup of tea when they are studying hard, unpacking the dishwasher when it is not your turn for the same reason, or turning the music down, without being asked to, when mum’s or dad's are working in the room next door.
Try it, you, and those who you have been kind to, will feel better.
Try to keep doing it and you, and those who you have been kind, to will feel better, longer.
Finally, to those of us who are recipients of that kindness, acknowledge the act and thank the giver (and, ideally, reciprocate the act!), because, as Dumbledore observed, we should not undervalue this most wonderful of traits.
Stay safe.
Yours sincerely,
Richard Minack
