9-12 Community News

It’s been a long time coming but, this week, we were excited to welcome back ALL of our students. Staff were excited to greet their students and get back into the classroom. Students were excited to see their friends. (And, possibly, parents were glad to get their houses back.) Our classrooms are once again full of energetic, engaged students and it is lovely to see so many, mask wearing, but smiling faces in the yard that is once again filled with laughter.

The final stages of our senior students’ year are rapidly approaching and the students have begun to tick off some of the landmark events of their final term. Years 11 and 12 students completing Units 3 & 4 subjects undertook the General Achievement Test (the GAT) last week. This important test is used as one of the measures by which students’ VCE results are moderated. This year, along with a range of other measures that will be taken into account, the GAT plays an even more significant role in ensuring that all of our students are able to complete their VCE/VET and VCAL courses successfully.

On Wednesday, Year 9 students took part in their second Seminar Day for the year. The presentation, from the RealTalk organisation, via a digital platform, challenged students to consider the topics of relationships, sex, self-worth and personal identity. The discussions prompted by the presentation demonstrated a thoughtful and mature response from our students.

It is with great excitement that we announce Tamazin Sacco, Claudia Broadhurst and Sarah Colliver have been nominated to participate in an online student workshop at SAM, led by artist Aoife Billings. Aoife has graduated from Fashion Design and Technology at RMIT and is a textiles-based artist who works mainly with embroidery.

Congratulations girls, we can't wait to see what you create!

It has been great to see our students wearing their College uniform with pride. Please ensure your child/ren is aware of the day they have PE classes to avoid wearing the wrong uniform. We thank you for your ongoing support in this area of ensuring our students are wearing their uniform ‘neat, clean and complete’, including hats and masks. This week, our current Year 11 students have been fitted for their Year 12 VCE/VCAL rugby jumpers. We will endeavour to have these ordered so they arrive for the start of the 2021 academic year.

Next week sees the opportunity to celebrate Book Week and all members of the 9-12 Community are invited to dress up in tribute to their favourite book on Monday 19th October.

The on-going situation with Covid-19 continues to throw challenges to us and, as we have done all year, we will all continue to adapt and adjust to whatever challenge is sent our way.  Unfortunately, our school photos have had to be postponed.

While our Year 12s look to the end of their studies and their exams, they are also looking to celebrate their achievements. While the way in which we can celebrate and acknowledge the many milestones for all of our students may be different this year, we will continue to adapt and adjust to ensure that the final term of 2020 is a memorable and enjoyable one for all of our students.

We hope you enjoy the following photos that give you just a snapshot of all the great learning that has happened around the 9-12 Community this week, as we welcomed our students back to face-to-face learning.
