Welcome Shannon

 

Shannon Thompson commenced as our new Mental Health Practitioner on Monday October 12th. Her role will be to assist with the development of our Mental Health School Action Plan, and to compliment the suite of support services already offered by our Wellbeing Team. She is passionate about engaging with young people who may be experiencing challenges with their wellbeing, and has dedicated her career to supporting youth in the Ballarat Community. Shannon has been a registered psychologist for over 20 years and has worked across a variety of organizations including: Australian Catholic University, Federation University, Grampians Psychiatric Services (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team), Ballarat Community Health Services (Youth Team Manager), Child and Family Services and Women’s Health Grampians. She is also a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and holds a firm belief in reducing the stigma associated with mental health concerns, and enhancing community awareness and education regarding this issue. Her focus is on primary prevention and health promotion in this area, and she strives to encourage people from all walks of life to assist and support young people who may be facing challenges. Further information about the support and associated programs Shannon will be facilitating will be made available over coming weeks.
