REMEMBERING
A century and year ago,
A young man left his home,
He proudly wore the ANZAC logo,
“If the Old Country is at war, so are we.”
The Gallipoli hillside, rocky and rough,
He raised his rifle and clumsily fired,
His reward was bloody wounds and hands in cuffs,
Overwhelmed emotions, but proud to be a patriot.
Hearing incessant gunfire and cannons roar,
Seeing bloody wounds with deaths to come,
Feeling his own blood sickeningly pour,
This man lived a time of horror and war.
Wounded, starved and even dead,
Was not only this young man,
But also his family with tears they shed,
For the soldiers and their loyal fighting dogs.
Their family baking biscuits, with lavender too,
Weeping as their loved were slaughtered,
Not only the fate of this innocent family or two,
But also for each and every living one.
Even as a century passes,
These men are never forgotten,
Always receiving love and kisses,
For their courageous building of our nation.

THE BRAVE YOUNG LADS
They came on ships 4 by 4,
Nobody can compare the sight they saw,
As incessant canons and guns roared,
While bloody hearts and wounds poured,
Those lads who wore the rising sun,
Won their chest of medals for the work they’d done,
They wore the logo as they shot their gun,
The packs they wore weighed a tonne,
Loved ones feared and waited more,
Their hearts and souls were rubbed raw,
But their faith and hope never tore,
But as they continued to wait it became a bore,
Hot rough winds sweep over the hillside,
While there was a large rip in the sea’s tide,
It was hot and windy as the soldiers would hide,
The conditions so hard that many died,
Lest we forget the soldiers fighting for us,
Lest we forget the blood and the pus,
Lest we forget the wind and the dust,
Lest we forget those who men who had to change and adjust,
Side by side, Australians and New Zealanders stand,
LEST WE FORGET
