Building Connections

The college vision for wellbeing is to support all members of our school community to develop a resilient mindset by striving to ensure everyone feels Connected, Protected and Respected (CPR). What creates resilience varies at different stages of our lives. The clear indication, though, is that people thrive when they:

  • Connect with one another
  • Protect one another
  • Respect one another.

Each term we will have a different CPR theme to grow the knowledge of all staff and students at the school. This term our focus is on “Building Connections”.  This involves working collectively to develop a school community that we are all proud to be a part of. It also means we display unconditional positive regard for each other and strive for positive and meaningful interactions. Students are encouraged to complete the daily wellbeing activities in their diary to grow their resilience and help them build a strong connection with our school.

School Uniform policy

All students of St Albans Secondary College are expected to wear full school uniform every day. The uniform must be worn to and from school, at lunchtime and recess, and on all school excursions. At all times, the manner in which the uniform is worn will reflect pride in the College. By having a compulsory uniform, the College aims to promote a positive image of our school in the community, encourage a sense of pride and belonging amongst our students, identify our students as belonging to the College,  and promote an equitable and inclusive learning environment.

This means the uniform:

  • will be clean
  • in a state of good repair
  • appropriately fitted
  • worn without non-uniform garments being visible (only plain white t-shirts are acceptable to be worn under the school polo top or shirt).

If you need support to acquire the correct uniform please contact your co-ordinator as you may be eligible for support from state schools relief. A full copy of our uniform policy is available on the College Website.

Afterschool Study Club and Tutoring

A range of after school supports is available to students. Our school runs an afterschool study group on a Thursday afternoon in the Library. Teachers support students in this program and the school has also partnered with an external agency who will be providing a range of tutors to support students in a variety of subjects. Permission forms are available for students on the Compass News Feed or at the end of this newsletter.

Year 7 camps

Our Year 7 Camp program to the school camp in Strathbogie kicked off this week. All Year 7 classes attend the camp across three days and two nights. The program is designed to help connect students with their environment, while developing a range of important skills such as teamwork, leadership, confidence and resilience. The camp is an important part of students' schooling life and all students are expected to attend. If you have any questions about the camp program, please contact our camp coordinator Mr Micallef or speak with your child's Coordinator.

Year 12 Study Camp

Year 12 students, both VCAL and VCE, participated in a 2 day camp last week at University College, part of the University of Melbourne. They participated in a range of activities, including mindfulness, team building, dance etc as well as workshops more specifically relating to English, EAL and Literacy. The program provided was well structured, and students were able to form connections with  their peers, teachers and coordinators. Thank you to the Senior subschool team for their organisation, and to all of the staff, teaching and Education Support, who contributed to the successful running of the camp.
