
Debating
The debating team participated in their fourth debate at Mercy College on Wednesday the 3rd of June. The year ten team consisting of Karman Bhinder, Danya Halefom and Lani Nguyen debated against East Preston Islamic College and they won the debate by one point. The topic was ‘That we should only imprison violent offenders’. Danya Halefom was awarded best speaker. A special thank you goes to Lani Nguyen of year 9 for filling in with very short notice.
The Year 9 teams also performed well on Wednesday evening; their topic was, ‘That music is the most important form of art. Team 1 consisting of Phung Tran, Rachel Pinto and Shani Nguyen debated against Santa Maria 2 and they won by two points. Shani Nguyen was awarded best speaker. Team 2 debated against Princes Hill Secondary College and were defeated by 3 points. Hannah McEniery, Hayley Webb and Laura Van Keulen performed very well. Team 3 were also defeated by a narrow margin of 2 points against Santa Maria 3. Nakita Lee, Anna Le and Kellie Phan did a great job.
A special thank you goes to Mr Ian Crocker for driving the bus and Ms Avril Good for coaching and supporting the teams.
Also, some very exciting news, Danya Halefom of Year 10, has been selected to participate in a debating training squad. She has been identified as a debater with great potential and the Debating
Association have offered her a great opportunity to be a part of the squad and participate in training sessions. Congratulations Danya!

Makers Club
Makers Club operates according to the belief that everyone can be an inventor. Participants are provided with cutting edge technology such as arduino boards, Makey Makeys, Little Bits and Scratch to create their own inventions. A competition will be running in Semester Two for students with the culmination to be a Makers' Fair where the most impressive creation will win its creator an iPad Air. Everyone is welcome to attend Makers' Club and enter the competition.
