Year 7 & 8 News Indigenious Speaker
On Friday 22nd June Year 7 students had the opportunity to experience two indigenous speakers who explained aboriginal culture and lifestyles. Fred and his son Troy showed some sacred tribal dances; one of them was called the Emu. Some students and teachers got up and joined their dance. Fred showed the audience how to make all kinds of things and we spoke about the tribal meetings. Students found the speaker very educational and the speakers showed us a part of their life and a part of the indigenous people who came before us. A great experience was had by all.
Cyber Busters
Year 8 attended a performance from Class Act on Wednesday 27th June on Cyber Bullying.
Here is an outline of the play.
CJ and Jess bump into each other at the park after school. They both agreed to meet someone at the exact same spot at the exact same time. What a pain – they barely know each other except they share the same Maths class. They definitely run in different circles.
When they eventually start talking to each other, they discover each of their dark secrets of cyber bullying and it is revealed, to their mutual dismay, that they have become victims as well as perpetrators!
The play explores all facets of electronic bullying, including:
- Internet
- Emails
- Web Sites
- Social Networking
- Chat Rooms
- Mobile phones
- Text messages
Students enjoyed the play and had follow up activities in there IS classes.

Attendance
St Albans Secondary has a 90% attendance policy. Daily school attendance is important for young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and developmentally. Young people who regularly attend school and complete year 12 or equivalent qualifications have better health outcomes, better employment outcomes, and higher incomes across their lives. Please ensure on your child’s return from an absence that they provide their coordinator with a medical certificate or note.
