French Poetry Competition

Berthe Mouchette Finals 2019

Earlier this year several of our talented year 9 and year 10 students ventured across the city to Eildon Mansion in St Kilda, home of the Alliance Française, a cultural enterprise dedicated to sharing French language and culture with the world.

It is also home to the long-running Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary! This important competition hosts thousands of entries each year, from students around the country, who must memorise and present a poem in French in front of a judge.

As you can imagine, this is not an easy task. It is our great pleasure then to announce that our school has two finalists this year, who scored a perfect 20 on their performance, and who returned for a finals round in late August, this time in front of two judges. These students are Cathy Phan of 10E, and Le Khanh Phan of 10B (who has incredibly reached the finals 2 years in a row!!)

We celebrate their outstanding achievements, to their studies and their accomplishments in learning French as an additional language. Congratulations Le and Cathy!
