Meet Stephanie Burgess

Steph Burgess here, new Head Coach of Rowing.

Three weeks in and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the beautiful view from the MGC boat shed, plus all the stunning views from around the school. What a handsome campus we have. I love taking in natural scenery, hiking and camping are one of my most favourite things to do when the weather permits. I’ve hiked the Larapinta trail out from Alice Springs, its wonderful – do it if you ever get the chance!

Before coming to MGC I was project manager of a small composting business that collected household food scraps and turned it into fertiliser, I’m very passionate about environmental issues. I also coordinated the senior rowing program at Korowa Anglican Girls School.

One thing I’d like to achieve whilst in my role at MGC is to get a teachers rowing crew out on the water and have a race between the senior rowers and the teachers (come and see me if you’re a teacher who is interested!) I’m looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can, even those who don’t row.

Head Coach of Rowing

Rowing Information Night

On Wednesday the 7th of September Melbourne Girls’ College held our Annual Rowing Information Night. It gave parents the chance to meet our new Head Rowing Coach, Stephanie Burgess, as well as successfully having all those questions answered.

The night was used to help not only the parents but the students as well by having Jessica Cuddy speak as an ex Rower for MGC and showing the students that it all doesn’t have to end after school. She has continued on to be a great coach for the Rowing team. Mae James an intermediate cox spoke about the roles and responsibilities as a cox followed by Maddie Carman a senior Rower explained how you can be committed student as well as rower for MGC.

The night was also used to help introduce a few new faces as well as some familiar faces too. Andrew Beck will be taking on the role as the new Rowing Leader, Adele Giarrusso as the Rowing Administrator and Nancy Magliano as the Junior Rowing Co-ordinator. To help the parents understand what it is like to have a rowing daughter our Rowing President Shelley Anderson spoke of all her highlights and experiences as being a parent.

The night was overall a huge success and we are all looking forward to an exciting and successful Rowing Season. Happy Rowing!
