Year 11 students at the filming of The Project

Host Family Needed!

Southern Cross Cultural Exchange urgently needs a host family for a Japanese student for the next three months.

Enjoy the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture in the comfort of your home.

Australian volunteer families play a significant role in increasing international understanding while gaining a better insight into another culture. Exchange students and their much appreciated host families come together in a mutual sharing of cultures and they develop special friendships while experiencing daily life.

Southern Cross Culture Exchange provides all the supporting arrangements. For further enquiries, please contact Dasha on 0433 996 142 or 03 9775 4711. Your help is much appreciated.

PhD Research Project

Dear Parents and Students,

This semester the science faculty has been participating in a PhD research project. Ms. Rochette is studying teachers' and students' perceptions of technology use in geoscience. This field is incredibly interesting as it is currently an under-researched topic. So far, we have a small picture of how technology is being utilized in science. Students and teachers have participated in a pilot project and we are beginning to see emerging themes of technology use and uptake in geoscience.

During term 4, this study will continue in two year 9 science classes. Teachers have already volunteered their classes, but student participants are still needed. Plain language statements and consent forms have been distributed to the classes. We are hoping to have students participating in two ways:

1) A weekly survey, during class time. For consenting students, this survey will be used as part of the formal research. Students who do not wish to participate will complete another survey the STEAM team is delivering for our professional development process.

2) At most 6 students are required to attend 6 weekly focus group sessions and a follow up interview during lunchtimes that are convenient for them.

Participating classes have had forms distributed to students. If you are interested in hearing more about this exciting project please feel free to contact Emily Rochette.

Sincerely,

Emily Rochette
