Dress Up Costumes Needed

Do you have old dress up costumes that your child has out grown?

Is it that time of the year when you are thinking about doing a clean out after the Christmas influx.  If in the near future anyone in our Concord community happens to be culling dress up’s can you please consider donating them to Lower Primary.  This year our students will be doing a ‘Spooky Themed’ school performance and before purchasing costumes we are seeking donations. If your household has costumes you no longer require or have out grown please send them to school in a plastic bag marked costumes for Lower Primary.   We request that all costumes be clean and in reasonable condition.  Costumes that are not required for the performance will be distributed among the classes or donated to the local op shop.

The Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre was buzzing with Yr 9, 10, 11 and 12 students and their families exploring many post school options as part of their career planning journey.

The large exhibition space was full with:

  • TAFEs
  • Further Education and Training providers
  • Employment Services
  • Day Services
  • Individualised Services
  • travel training and independent living specialists,
  • Leisure options and respite services

This is the first time we have combined with Croxton School and it was great to be able to open this opportunity up to some smaller schools also.  The National Disability Coordination Office provided comprehensive transition information booklets and Council personnel and Workplace Learning Coordinators from the Local Learning and Employment Network provided information about employment opportunities.

It was a wonderful opportunity to explore all these options under one roof and the service providers also enjoyed catching up with each other.  It was very pleasing also to see some of our 2013, 14 and 15 exit students coming along to tell us how happy they are with their placements and being great ambassadors to inform our current students and their families.

The year 12 students and their families came well prepared. They have all had a 45-minute Career Planning Consultation with the Careers and Transition Coordinator.  Throughout this interview a ‘picture was painted’ of the individual student identifying their history, individual strengths and weaknesses and transferrable skills. The importance of career allies and maintaining contact with the Careers Coordinator was established to remain informed of future tour dates etc. This further enhanced the career exploration process and journey.

Feedback was very positive and we look forward to continuing this great initiative in the future.
