Principal's Report

Welcome Back
It is wonderful to see our students at school again and back into the rhythm of the school term. The one constant at Concord School is that the staff are striving to improve the academic and social achievements of our students and that in their own way each student is embracing the challenges that are presented. Term 2 is a long 11 week term but pleasingly it has started extremely smoothly.
A reminder that the ANZAC Day public holiday is Monday 25th April so the students are not required at school. Many of our classes have been engaging in activities relating to the spirit of ANZAC with its human qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice.
New Sign at Front of School
For those of you who have not been to the Bundoora Campus this term, we have recently installed a large, shiny, new school sign at the front of the school on Grimshaw St. A frequent comment from visitors to the school in recent years is that they did not previously know that the school was here. Hopefully the sign, along with the new fencing, has given the school more ‘street presence’.
New Film Clip from Unbroken
Our school band named ‘Unbroken’ recently released their first film clip titled ‘Shattered’. ‘Shattered’ was recorded late in 2015 at Jets Studios and is an original song composed entirely by the bands members. Featuring Domenico Ferrentino on bass guitar, Nicholas Tanti on lead guitar, Joseph Doran on drums, Ruby Naish on keyboards and Chelsea Russell, Amee Heffernan and Rebecca Sulejman on vocals, Unbroken is an original contemporary band held as part of an extended music program for students at Concord School.

Staffing
There have been some changes to staff to commence Term 2.
Pam Wright (Secondary 9-10 Team Leader) has been appointed to a short term Assistant Principal position at Thomastown West PS for term 2. This is a tremendous learning experience for Pam and we wish her well. As a result Tim Clarke has been appointed to the Acting Secondary 9-10 Team Leader position for term 2. Tim’s class is being taught by Jane Sonderhof.
Nicole Ford has been appointed to the full-time Speech Pathology position in the Lower Primary area. This is a Family Leave position for Nicole Haspell. Jenna Cooper has been appointed to the full-time Occupational Therapy position in the Upper Primary area.
Jan Holland (ES) and Carole Meade (Social Competencies) have retired after having provided many years of exemplary service to our school. They were farewelled with a morning tea on the last day of term 1. Deb Oliver has been appointed to the Social Competencies position (0.4) at the Bundoora Campus and Trish Kuhar has been appointed to the vacant ES position.
2015 Concord School Annual Report
The 2015 Concord School Annual Report can now be accessed through the school website at Our School/School Documents. This Annual Report informs parents/carers and the wider school community of the school's successes, activities and achievements throughout the previous year. http://www.concordsch.vic.edu.au/
Secondary Uniform: Wearing of the School Jumper
As Term 2 commences there is a chill in the air particularly in the mornings and the students are progressively wearing the winter uniform. The vibrant red in the Secondary jumper is particularly noticeable and parents/carers are reminded once again that the school jumper, and not the spray jacket, must be worn first with the formal uniform.
Please contact Deb Whiteway in the school office on 94673972 if you require the red (or charcoal for Year 11/12) woollen jumper, spray jacket and/or rugby jumper. Parents/carers whose circumstances may make it difficult to obtain a school uniform are asked to contact Colin Simpson (Assistant Principal) for assistance.
