INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS AT CHELTENHAM SECONDARY COLLEGE

The Music Department at Cheltenham Secondary College is a great way to fuel students’ interests in music. All of the instrumental teachers are very supportive of their students. They spend a lot of time and have endless patience when it comes to teaching the students new techniques, and helping to learn new pieces, or master a piece that they are currently working on.

I’ve been taking bass guitar lessons since the start of Year 7. I have an instrumental lesson once a week. Since I started in Year 7 I have had a few different instrumental teachers. When I began having lessons they were with Michael Kean. Michael was my teacher first the few years up until he left the school. After that Christian Meyer became my new Bass Guitar teacher for the past couple years. Michael and Christian both have their own bands that they are a part of. Since the start of Term 3 this year, Ben Cripps has been my Bass teacher. Ben has been playing Bass Guitar for the past 30 years and is a fantastic teacher.

I really like being able to choose which songs I get to learn and play. It helps me to express myself and keeps me interested in learning new material. Two songs that I have been able to choose and perform are 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana and 'All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)' by Bullet For My Valentine.

These songs are from the genres of music that I thoroughly enjoy, which made them fun and interesting to play.

Instrumental lessons are a great way for music students to show their individual talents and develop new techniques. My lessons help me to improve my guitar skills and to prepare for music performances.
