Year 12 Wilson’s Promontory Camp

On the 12th – 16th of February Year 11 and 12 students from the Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor and Environmental Studies classes went to Wilson’s Promontory for a 5-day camp. The camp consisting of hiking, navigation, leadership, surfing, swimming and environmental education. There were many highs and lows of the camp. Everyone took turns in being the leaders of their group, setting the pace and keeping each individual happy was often a challenge. Each person was very tired and sore by the time the 3 day hike of 41 km was over. When we reached Tidal River, we all enjoyed a warm shower and some hot food. Thursday night a storm struck as the group were watching a movie at the outdoor cinema. We were lucky to fit under the huge tarp away from the rain where we kept warm under our sleeping bags. Friday morning we were up early to participate in a surf lesson run by ‘Offshore Surf School’. While it was a cold morning, the rain had stopped and we had allot of fun learning a new skill. On the long drive home we were all very tired but satisfied and the ones who were not asleep enjoyed  many karaoke sessions.

Overall the camp was really fun and everyone learnt something new, whether that be how to surf, about the environment, each other or simply not to leave food in the tents to avoid ‘invasive wombats’!

Year 7 BBQ

Thanks to all the parents, staff and helpers that made the Year 7 BBQ another great success. The informal chance for teachers and parents to meet and discuss the learning and transition from primary school to Year 7 at CSC is an important annual part of our transition program. A special thanks to the VET hospitality crew for their great salads and also to the staff and parents that helped cook and prepare. It was one of the hottest nights so far this year but this did not deter well over 140 people attending which was fantastic.
