from Monday, 26 February, CSC will be mailing ballot papers to all CSC families.   Included in the ballot pack will be information on each of the six candidates to help with your choice and a ballot paper to register your vote.  Votes must be returned to CSC Reception by 4pm on Friday, 14 March.

Parking on Lawson Parade

Last year we commenced discussions with Mount Alexander Shire Council officers to plan for clearer parking, pick up and drop off zones on Lawson Parade. Over the summer holidays, Mount Alexander Shire Council installed new signs to clearly designate long parking vs short term parking.  Please take care of where you park as over the next few weeks Council parking inspectors will be checking that cars are parked within the allowable spaces and fining those that are not.  Later this term work will commence to level the south verge of Lawson Parade to create additional diagonal parking spaces to accommodate the increased parking requirements of CSC staff, students, families and visitors.

Valuable feedback received via the Start of Year Family Survey

A big thank you to all families who completed the Start of Year Family Survey earlier this month.  In order to improve our services and processes, we asked families the extent to which they agreed or disagreed with a number of statements.  These included how prepared they felt for the start of the 2018 school year, the availability of uniform items and accessibility of the Uniform Shop, the process of enrolling students at CSC, mentor interviews, using XUNO, and the service provided by teaching and education support staff.  Ninety-nine individuals took the survey which took an average of only four minutes to complete.

Since the survey closed, Paul Frye, Principal, Justin Hird, Assistant Principal and I have been analysing the responses and preparing a plan to address the issues raised.

Regarding the Uniform Shop, the main issues concerning families were the lack of stock, the limited opening hours and the length of time waiting in line to be served.  In response to this feedback we have been working with Beleza to make some changes.

From next week, the Uniform Shop will offer extended opening hours on a Thursday evening to 7pm.  This extended service will operate in Terms 1 and 4.  An error at the Beleza warehouse resulting in a stock shortage has been resolved and the first delivery of additional stock will be arriving next week.

To address the waiting time during the peak start of year period, CSC will enable Beleza to occupy a larger space adjacent to the Uniform Shop to install a second sales desk.  We will also schedule additional days during January for the Uniform Shop to be open.  We hope these changes will enable CSC families to more easily make uniform purchases.

As we work through the other issues raised, I will include regular updates in the CSC newsletter.  If you have any questions about the survey, please contact me on 5479 1111.

Mobile phone policy:

The introduction of our new Mobile Phone Policy has been extremely well received by students, CSC staff and CSC families. The intention behind a rigorous policy is to produce positive and supportive learning environments, which have minimal disruptions to student learning. A school culture of high expectations relies on clear processes which are followed by all staff and students, which links clearly to our College value of Responsibility. On behalf of the CSC staff, I would like to thank parents for their current and future support.

School uniform:

Students from Year 7-11 are reminded they are required to be in full school uniform when attending school, which includes black leather shoes. We believe there are plenty of uniform clothing options to meet the requirements of all  our students. Students wearing the full CSC uniform, demonstrate a connectedness to our school and that they are proud to be a part of the wider CSC community.

Subject changes:

Considering we are 4 weeks into the school year, subject changes for Semester 1 have now closed. Changing subjects at this late stage places unrealistic workloads on students, who would be required to catch-up on missed work, which is specifically true in VCE subjects.

Canteen

We have a great start to the 2018 year with many happy students coming into the canteen for lunch and recess. The menu is always changing with seasonal products such as fruit cups and homemade biscuits, muffins, banana bread to name a few.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

The canteen is another way people can get involved with the school and we are looking for volunteers to help out. Volunteers just need to have a current Working with Children Check.
