An amazing effort for all students involved. Thank you to Ms Squires, Mr White & Ms Walsh for taking us.

Travis wins bronze!

Travis Creed  comes from a family of paddlers. His Grandpa, dad, Uncle Garry and  cousin Tyler are all keen on canoeing and some have won major paddling competitions.

On the 15th of March 2020 Travis and his family, as well as Year 10 student Angus Frencham, travelled to Nagambie in central Victoria, to compete in the Victorian School Champs paddling competition.

Travis competed in one marathon race and one sprint race and came third in both. He wasn't expecting to be on the podium at all, so receiving two medals was definitely the highlight of his day!

The medals were presented to him by an ex Olympic canoeist, which made the day even more special.

Travis can now add my medals to the family tally.

Headstart is giving students a headstart.

The Headstart Program has proved a huge success for our VCAL students, many of who have started apprenticeships or traineeships as part of their VCAL Program.

Talullah Foley has started working in hospitality and cooking at The Doveton Café.

Nathan Phillips has started an electrical apprenticeship with Eco-Tech Bendigo

Ned Sartori has started an apprenticehisp as a mechanic with Steady Motors in Newstead.

And, Chantel Whyoon-Clarke has started a traineeship in childcare with Paisley Park Childcare in Maryborough.

The students work 2-3 days on the job with paid employment, while completing the remainder of their VCAL studies on the other days. The Headstart component of work and TAFE training covers the VCAL Strands of Work Related Skills and VET.

Once these students complete their Year 12 Certificate, they will be well on their way in a career pathway that will provide them secure employment and training qualifications for their future careers.

A special thanks to Marty Marks, the Headstart Co-ordinator for Castlemaine and Maryborough, who does a power of work setting up the placements, liasing with students, families, employers, Apprenticeship bodiesand myself. Marty is a regular feature at the Etty St Campus and builds strong rapport with students.

Once students complete their VCAL, they will continue to have Martys support for the remainder of their apprenticeship.
