Melton Police Visit

Melton Police Visit

VICSEG New Futures and other community agengcies are in the process of developing a closer cooperative with the police in Melton, with the aim of improved prevention and early intervention work with young people from diverse backgrounds in Melton.

Two Melton based police officers visited our weekly VICSEG Multicultural Student Engagement and Scholarship Program recently.  Past, current, and future scholars were present at the meeting: Jacob Aleer, Sakir Nawaz, Delsey Hiram, Christine Papalii Seu, Anyieth Mabiei, Aster Mersha, Sharie May Castillo, and Ro Da Thangaw.  They were joined by their Victoria Univeristy Youth Worker Jessica Gjerkes and VICSEG Community Development Coordinator Abraham Jongroor.  These meetings are on Mondays afterschool, and are overseen by Yvette Medina in the EAL room.

When asked about the experience, Aster said that, “it was good seeing them because it looked like they cared about the community.”  Sakir said it was good to find out about their jobs more and how they feel about their jobs.  Roda said that it made them more confident, and that people shouldn’t be afraid of the police or to ask questions.
