EXCEL Sports Program

Junior Girls Futsal Championships

On Thursday the 3rd of May the girls from Years 7&8 Excel Sport Program competed in the Melbourne School Futsal Titles in Oakleigh against schools from all over metropolitan Melbourne. Most of the girls were reasonably new to Futsal, having only tried it during the training sessions before the event, but were eager to give it a try. Patterson River Secondary College had 2 teams entered into the U13’s division and 2 teams in the U14’s.

The day saw all teams play multiple games and with each game the girls improved their skills and game awareness. The U14 A team were the standout team on the day going through to the final undefeated coming up against the soccer powerhouse, Balwyn High School. The girls continued their great form defeating Balwyn High School 2-0 becoming  Melbourne School Futsal champions. Well done girls

Under 13 and 14 Boys Futsal Titles

On Wednesday 2nd May the EXCEL Sport Program entered four boys teams in the School Futsal Titles held at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. The boys competed against schools that had been training for this event since the start of the year and were comprised of elite soccer players. It was a massive learning curve for the Patterson River Secondary College students in resilience, perseverance and rapid skill development. I was extremely proud of the effort shown by all of the boys to continue to compete throughout a tough day and watch them grow as soccer players. Thank you to Mrs. Perpina and our student teacher Michelle Bowen for your assistance throughout the day.

Excel Sport Testing Day

On Thursday 3rd May, 63 Grade 6 students from surrounding Primary Schools attended Patterson River Secondary College to apply for the Year 7 EXCEL Sport class of 2019. The students participated in soccer, fitness testing, murder ball, badminton, hockey and a theory component. Congratulations to the 22 students offered a place at our College and to all of the Grade 6 students who participated with enthusiasm throughout the day. A special mention to all of the staff and the Year 9 EXCEL Sport students who helped make the day possible.

Thank you to Kellie for her enthusiasm and expertise in these areas.

U19 Molten 3x3 Schools Challenge Tournament

STATE BASKETBALL CENTRE – APRIL 2018

Under 19 Boys - Brayden Laurie, Tom Tozer, Mitch Craddock and Michael Scheffer.

The boys were able to compete in the finals after posting a 3/1 record in the preliminary rounds. Mitch Craddock displayed great form from the outside in all the preliminary rounds, with Tom Tozer doing everything the team needed and as the only player with size, he had to match up and defend larger players all day. Brayden Laurie showed his excellent skill set and the ability to adjust when his outside shot wasn’t consistent. Michael Scheffer was given the hard task of contributing when his minutes were sporadic, but contributed to each win he was involved in. After winning the first final the boys were beaten by the height rather than ability of a team from Geelong. There was a scare put into the opposition with the boys hitting a succession of  threes to prompt a rarely used time out by the opposition to try and shut them down. With not much time left and without the ability to get clean looks through screens, the Geelong team came out victors by 5 points. Overall a very successful day on the court.

U15 3x3 Basketball Tournament

The Year 9 EXCEL Sport Class entered four teams in the Under 15 3x3 Molten Basketball Tournament at the State Basketball Centre. Two of our teams only lost one game for the day and narrowly missed playing finals. It was an enjoyable day playing basketball in an exciting format which encourages high level team play. Well done Year 9s.
