Chaplain's Chat

This week

Over the next few weeks we are looking at how to make our school mornings run a little smoother. Last week I wrote about the importance of having breakfast and gave some quick and easy breakfast ideas. This week we’ll look at how to help our kids be ready to get out the door and go to school!

With a little bit of planning and organisation, we can avoid a chaotic morning rush. It helps to do some things the night before: make lunch and pop it in the fridge, put readers/notices, etc that need returning into their school bag, or the drink bottle, or sports gear, or whatever else may be needed for school the next day, ensure school uniform is washed and ready to wear. As parents, we can decide whether our children are capable to do their own bag packing, or whether we need to give them a hand with it. Getting on top of things the night before will definitely help the school morning run better, and maybe even allow time for breakfast!

What’s happening?

  • Have you seen what’s been done in the front garden beds beside the staff carpark? Students and parents have been planting, watering, tending and mulching this area. Why? Not only does it improve the general school surrounds, gardening provides a wonderful opportunity for people, both young and old, to work and talk together and to get active in the great outdoors. We’ll be continuing to develop this area, so come and join in on Thursday afternoons from 2.30, before pick-up! We’re wanting to further develop the garden beds, as well as incorporate some art. Got any ideas??
  • Another way to get involved in our school community is in cutting up fruit, vegetables and sandwiches to give out to students at lunchtime. Sometimes students come with no food or can do with an extra brain boost! On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm a group of parents gather in the staffroom to do this. Come and join them! More hands means less work!
