Our New Classroom Helpers Have Graduated!

Each year our school is very fortunate to have the opportunity to train yet another group of parents and care givers who are willing to become Classroom Helpers.  This year’s group have been eager learners who have approached the course of four weekly sessions with a sense of fun and dedication.  They’ve even done their homework!

The Premier's Reading Challenge

B.H.P.S. is proud to once again be a part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge. For those who are new to this program, thousands of books have been selected by the Premiers of each state that they would recommend that children read independently, or have read to them. Children in Years Prep – 2 need to have had 30 of the Challenge’s titles read to them and Years 3 – 6 need to read 15 of the books independently. Additional books can be added that aren’t on the Challenge list, to boost your child’s total. This year we’re hoping to read more books that we have any other year and will be measuring our success with a huge ‘thermometer’ in the main school building.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is just one part of our approach to encourage children to read more often and to really enjoy books. Both our school library and our classroom libraries are constantly being updated with new books. We know that increased reading will make the biggest impact upon every subject in the curriculum, boosting children’s vocabulary and their knowledge of the world and how it works. Children who read independently or with a parent at home have the greatest advantage over others.  Every aspect of their reading is being practiced, further developed and extended.  Please take the opportunity to read to your children as often as you’re able, as well as hear them read the classroom books they bring home each night.

At the end of the Challenge, children who reach the target receive a certificate from the Premier to celebrate their success,
